add to my AR or buy AK?
I'm not sure if this topic belongs here - please feel free to move it if necessary.
I bought myself a Spikes Tactical ST-15 middy for Christmas. Here is my dilemma: I want to buy an Arsenal SGL21 at the upcoming gun show here in Corpus (next weekend). I hope I can find one OTD for <=$800. However, I also want to buy furniture (mainly Magpul) and an AIMPOINT PRO for my ST which will total ~$650. Is it wise to add and complete my ST before I purchase another rifle? Or do I buy an AK and put my ST on hold for a few more months?
Here are my main concerns:
1. Firearms will go up in price more drastically than aftermarket parts; therefore, I should purchase the AK now.
2. I will have two rifles to build up (don't really want to do a lot to the AK, just a scope mount, optic, magazines and ammo, more magazines, and a lot more ammo).
3. My ST will get jealous of all the attention the new Arsenal will get from me.
Thanks for your input!

I was in kind of the same boat, however I was do I buy my lower and send off my form 1 or buy an ak. I bought the ak. The lower and stamp can wait especially since wait times are so long anyways.

I think you have the right idea regarding gun prices going up, so for that reason I'd advocate AK.
I gotta ask though: the AR was a recent purchase, right? How's your ammo/mag situation for it? Id want to have a cushy supply of those before I got into a new system.

I'd have to say that I collected firearms, mags and ammo for 6 yrs before buying my first Aimpoint last fall.

Ammo and magazines. Keep the magazines loaded and have boxes of good ammo.

Re: add to my AR or buy AK?
Thanks for everyone's input. It took a while to decide what I wanted/needed, but when I came across a $750 SGL21-62 I could not resist the deal.. I looked all around and the average price on the interwebs was $820 (including my FFL transfer) and my LGS wanted $950?! so this was a no brainer.
I also took into consideration my ammo/mag supply for my AR - I will be adding to that stash. My goal is to have 3k 5.56 and mags for 1k and the remaining 2k in ammo cans.
Here are a couple pictures of my new AK:

Congrats, nice gun! AKs are fun...and in my experience tend to multiply.

Went throught the same thing myself. And going through it again.
I would get the AK as soon as you have reached a comfortable ammo and magazine levels for the AR platform. As long as you can use/rely the AR platform with out the bells and whistles, you should be fine. I'd recommend an inexpensive $30 Simmons 3-9x30 QTA 8-point scope (quick target acquisition) for your AR while until you what you want. It's better than nothing and it's actually pretty good. It can almost be used like an eotech or aimpoint, the eye relief is long and you can easily deploy it in a similiar manner effectively.
My wife scolded me for running through the house targeting object to see how I could use it effectively as a substitute eotech. Works great as a scope.
I have already got my first AK (romy wasr junker cant hit the side of a barn from the inside
)after outfitting my first AR, and now that my 2nd AR is outfitted, I am also looking at the Arsenal SGL-21-61 or 66, they are supposed to be much better, check out review by nutnfancy.

didnt read the thread all the way through. Good purchase. check out the scope anyway. its a good back up for when emp makes all your battery operated optics worthless.

Re: add to my AR or buy AK?
no need to build up the AK. Millions were made and used worldwide with just the iron sights. it's actually difficult to install scopes on ak's. just leave it alone.
build up that ar.
buy the ak first because the weak republican candidates will ensure obamination's victory and the nra says he will ban guns after the election. it will suck.

1, he was asking about buying an AK, not adding things to it.drjoker wrote:no need to build up the AK. Millions were made and used worldwide with just the iron sights. it's actually difficult to install scopes on ak's. just leave it alone.
2. Its not hard at all to install red dots/scopes on AKs except for underfolders. That's what that side mount is for. And even better, Texas Weapon Systems has a railed dust cover out that you can mount on....it even allows for co witness with iron sights, as does ultimaks gas tube rail replacement.
