Trusted Gunsmiths in DFW area??
Hey folks, getting back into shooting after double hip surgery to fix the arthritis that took me out of my favorite hobby. I'm now getting re-acquainted with my "other" children (the ones that live patiently in the dark safe waiting for attention) and some of them need work that I had been putting off. Have a couple of 1911's that need some trigger work and new sights, and a Hi Power that needs the typical mods (trigger, mag safety removed, better thumb safety, etc.).
I'm in Plano (north Dallas); does anyone have a 'smith in the area that they would trust their "children" to?? I know there are folks in other places that I could ship to, but prefer to look them in the eye if possible.
Thanks a bunch in advance!!

Doc at Doc's gun shop in Carrollton is good. He's a block east of 35 on Sandy Lake/Keller Springs.

Stephen Camp, (our resident hi-power expert), plugged Williamson Precision Gunsmithing in Hurst in several of his posts. Here's one:

I haven't tried them yet but I will when I decide to get some work done on my Mark III.

Thanks for the recommedations. Please keep 'em coming, as it's great to have options if you run into a backlog situation with any given 'smith. This might be a good topic for a "sticky" that members could contribute to as they find new gunsmiths... Cheers!

Re: Trusted Gunsmiths in DFW area??
I just got back from a visit with Andrew McFarlane at ADM Gun in Southlake. I picked up a great shotgun from a forum member a couple of months ago, and wanted to have it fitted to me.
Andrew not only spent a good amount of time with me on the fitting, he spent even more time with me working on my stance and hold, so that I would get the best possible comfort shooting this gun. I was MORE than a little impressed! And he did the work same day! I took it in the morning, got it back this afternoon. Now have homework. Have to go shoot a few rounds, hit the patterning board, then report back for possible tweaking.
This is service way above and beyond what I expected. And, at a very reasonable price too! I highly recommend Andrew.

Robert has done work for me, all good and a really nice guy.wgoforth wrote:Our own Robert Burke, http://thesigarmorer.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; in Carrollton.
Docs always seems to have a 3 month backlog. He is very good, but you have to be patient.
There is no failure here, only varied degrees of success!!

Good to hear Andrew is doing some good work. It seems if you are dealing with shotguns he is great. If you have something other than a shotgun or are not interested in his custom fitting work your wait time just may be a bit longer. PM me for details on my experience with him if your interested. On the other hand Andrew is a great guy and I would recomend him anytime.

I've spent a lot of money on guns, bullets and holsters.... The rest I've just squandered away!
