Santorum in Plano tonight

Post by SavageMythology »

For any of you who are interested and live in the north DFW area, Rick Santorum will be holding a campaign rally in Plano tonight. I can't make it, but I'd love to hear about a good turnout. I've been a Santorum fan since there was a whole stage-full of candidates, and I think there are a lot more of us out there than are maybe willing to admit it at this point in the nomination process. My belief is that the average Republican is a little scared to deviate from the Romney/Gingrich match-up which the media is pushing, for fear that bringing more Santorum into the mix will only split the Gingrich vote to the point that we'll just end up with Romney by default. This was evidenced to me by my own grandparents, who voted in Florida for "who we think can win" rather than who they agree with the most on the issues. That's the exact mentality that got us McCain in '08, and I'd really hate to see that happen again...

After yesterday's results from CO, MN and MO, I think we're going to see more Santorum support start to turn up. The guy has a great 2nd amendment record (as has been discussed elsewhere in this forum), and since he's in Texas I'd be willing to bet that he might mention something about it tonight.

The rally starts at 7:00 and will be held here:
Fairview Farms
Corral Barn
3314 North Central Expressway #100
Plano, TX

I'm choosing to not be one of the conservatives who takes the "I'm not enthused about anyone in the field, so I'm going to highlight their faults and go with the lesser of three/four evils" approach to the whole thing. Pick the candidate with whom you agree the most, instead of the one with whom you disagree least, and support him! For me, that's Santorum.

I'd love to go but I'll be flying back home from the Great White North at that time.

I'm going to support Paul in the primaries, but of the other three candidates, Santorum seems like the only one who is a decent person.

However I completely disagree with his anti-freedom beliefs.
“One of the criticisms I make is to what I refer to as more of a Libertarianish right.

They have this idea that people should be left alone, be able to do whatever they want to do, government should keep our taxes down and keep our regulations low, that we shouldn’t get involved in the bedroom, we shouldn’t get involved in cultural issues.

That is not how traditional conservatives view the world. There is no such society that I’m aware of, where we’ve had radical individualism and that it succeeds as a culture.”

Are political rallies like this "posted"?
I am not a lawyer, nor have I played one on TV, nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, nor should anything I say be taken as legal advice. If it is important that any information be accurate, do not use me as the only source.

i went. it was WAY packed. and standing room only outside. hard to hear with that big of a crowd (they could have wired outside speakers). he only talked for about 40 minutes, though it was billed for an hour and a half.

heard a lot of what is currently wrong with the USofA. but didn't hear what he was going to do to fix it. TONS of supporters so i guess it was more of a pep rally.

i went to be convinced. still on the fence.

I was going to go, but ran into a plumbing issue which would've made me late and I just didn't really feel like it anyway. Sounds like I didn't miss much.

My thanks to those of you who went, even if for no other reason than to check the guy out. I absolutely respect being "on the fence" or supporting another candidate, as long as it's a principled, reasonable stance.

I know speedsix didn't think there would be any issue with CC at a political rally, but did any of you who actually went see any signs prohibiting CC? I'd like to go to some future events and would just like to know what to expect as far as that's concerned.

...the law I cited allows cities to regulate political meetings and rallies against firearms EXCEPT FOR THOSE WHO HAVE CHLs....so unless the building's posted...or it's an election place on election day...you're good to carry CHL...

it was a strange venue. it was a barn of sorts, like a big banquet hall. there's side doors, like garage doors, that open up to an outside area of picnic tables.

when i got there the barn part was full, couldn't even get up to the door, so i couldn't see if it was posted. i was in the mass in the open area. didn't see any signs (permanent or temporary) anywhere.

I took my daughter, was a great learning experience for her. No signs were posted, no scanning, lite security.
We stood front and center about 7 ppl back from stage. Maylle Thomas band opened (great McKinney area group, have a couple of their rock/gospel albums). Santorum was very charismatic, he hit on some of his key points, but as he said "I know I'm preachin to the choir". Really was a pep rally to get people out to spread the word and to gather donations.
