Tax refund

Post by papajohn1964 »

We filed on 2/5 and are getting a refund. At first when I checked the KGB uh.... IRS website it said we should have our refund by 2/21. The next day it said 2/28 and then 2/14. When I check with my ssn it says it was deposited on 2/14 but we haven't received it yet. When I check with my wifes ssn it still says 2/28! Trying to call them os pointless, on hold forever and then get disconnected. I have read that they are having computer glitches but come on!!! Is it just us or is anyone else having problems?

good luck with all that.

I learned a long time ago to strive to either hit the number right, or owe a small amount. Getting back a "refund" of any size, especially during times of inflation, is no better than putting the same amount of money in a fruit jar and burying it in the back yard (without a map to find it).

Normally we are within a couple hundred bucks either owed or refunded but since I was unemployed most of last year and UE benefits are apparantly not taxable we are actually getting back everything we paid in, a fairly sizable amount to us right now.

I did call the bank and they don't see it yet. I went back and double checked the account number that we gave them and it is correct. I guess I'll keep trying the IRS.

I think your information is incorrect, your unemployment benefits are taxable at the federal level, maybe not state level but depends on the state.

There were no taxes taken out of my UE payments. On the 1040 there was a separate line for unemployment benefits received. I was told that this was some sort of new rule this year that gave credit for being unemployed. But trust me I would have much rather been employed!

I believe that one could make a cogent case for the following:

When and if you do get your refund actually deposited into your bank account, you would be in a great position to buy my M1A: viewtopic.php?f=20&t=52414" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I understand you would rather be employed and hope you find employment. You should have received a 1099-G from Texas Workforce Commision. My wife was layed off in 2010 and received UI. No taxes were taken out, but we were responsible for paying taxes based on the 1099-G which also is reported to the IRS. Her UI was extended for a short time in 2011 as well and she got another 1099-G in January. You probably already know , but you can check history at http://www.twc.state.tx.us/ui/unemploym ... vices.html View IRS 1099-G Information.

There may be some rules I'm not aware of but - You do not want to get crosswise with the IRS

Edit: IANAL nor am I a tax expert so you should consult a professional. I did see something saying anything over $2400 in 2011 is taxable but there was no explanation. I recommend getting a professional tax expert if you are not certain.

You should get a 1099G either way. If not I think you can view it on the TWC website.

I still havent got all my normal 1099 from temp jobs last year. :grumble

I've been drooling over that since you posted it. The problem is if I bought it it would still be at your house because I would have to move in with you! :shock:

We did our return online. The 1099g info was input on its own line as instructed. The form did all of the math all I did is input the information it asked for. I actually started over three time because I thought I has entered something wrong. We called a CPA that works with my wife and she is the one that told us about the new rule for UE. She plugged our numbers in hers system and came up with the same refund. The return was accepted by the IRS and their website says it was direct deposited on 2\14 so I know there is no problem with the return.

I do know about getting crossways with them. Happened to me a few years ago. They put a levy on my wages. They don't say we're going to take x%. They say ok your a single male so we are going to allow you to keep $1,100 of your money every month and we are going to take the rest. They are BRUTAL I tell ya. I did get that all cleared up ASAP!
