I suppose that the worst case outcome of something like this would be to be asked to leave. I personally keep my CHL tucked away and am unlikely to use it as an ID. but if a discussion comes up about concealed carry, it may be an opportunity to explain CHL and the how and why of it all. A lot depends on the environment and context. I would not admit to conceal carry in the workplace for instance. Nor at any social gathering. To someone behind a gun counter? maybe.

A traffic ticket is a criminal charge. This could cost you your gun
rights and your CHL both for being insane

Um....sarcasm. ;-)

I should have done it in the sarcasm font, like this:

And it is no one's business until I have a need to use it in accordance with the Law.

The answer to the question when asked by other than a LEO should be something along the lines of "I can neither confirm or deny that" (if you feel so compelled to answer). Otherwise, I would simply ignore the question.

Additionally, I don't like "too friendly" salespeople. I am there to buy something and not to become their "friend". Kinda reminds me of most Car Salesmen. So, it would not be uncommon (for me) to just say....."I am not your friend and I do not want to be your friend. I want to checkout and leave".

I have been asked that question perhaps 2 or 3 times before, but each time it was by someone who I knew well enough that I felt comfortable revealing the truth. Each time, it has been within the context of a conversation about guns, and often in which I have offered to take someone to the range and teach them how to shoot. Those kinds of conversations will usually lead to my making a pitch for their getting themselves a CHL. They'll ask me if I have one, and I'll smile and say yes. That's when the "are you carrying right now" question comes up.

Alas, I am not carrying right now. Normally I would be, but I'm currently in CA and my gun is 1720 miles away in TX, and my waistline isn't big enough for it to all work out.
I am not a lawyer, nor have I played one on TV, nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, nor should anything I say be taken as legal advice. If it is important that any information be accurate, do not use me as the only source.

yea my wife does that too, even when I'm in uniform and I tell her that the guard policy is that I can't, so I use alternative methods that don't violate policy

Unless it's a leo, I always say no. That way I still have the element of surprise on my side should I need it. If you say yes the next Question is likely to be WHERE? With that said most people who know me well, don't know that I have a chl, and I like it that way.

In 2011, It might have been Wentworth, or another politician, answered
"Are you carrying now?"
with
"That's the beauty of CONCEALED carry ... no one ever knows if you are or aren't"
and that's all he said.

I'm sure if they had asked again a second time, he'd repeat what he said until they got the point.
