Russ, I believe that they are holding interviews for trooper-trainees at the Garland Regional Office on Thursday. If you are interested in a Communications position, that is a separate interview board and not one being held on Thursday. (Call 214-861-2045 to apply) Likewise for GDEM positions - separate board.kw5kw wrote:First, my entry level will be in communications with (I hope) an up grade to a position with the Governor's Division of Emergency Management which falls under the umbrella of the Department of Public Safety.
This is a liaision from the department to other government entities as well as with individual volunteer agencies and the various utilities. In other words I'll be a part of the command staff during an Incident Command Event, not one of the grunts.![]()
But, it will require a TCLOSE (did I get that right TXI?) and (I guess) it will eventually be a commissioned LEO, but not required to be hired... just within the first 12 months of hire, along with various FEMA certs (of which I already have 2) and a few other things... such as a nuclear endorcement and an FCC Amateur license. Of course, I already have the radio license.
This is something that I've been doing since 1992, but not getting paid for it. Hopefully, now I will.

A TCLEOSE Basic Telecommunicator license is required to be obtained within 12 months of employment as a Police Communications Operator. However, this license does not lead to a Commissioned position.
