Is eating dove shot with lead shot safe?

Dumb question from a newb.... Is eating dove shot with lead shot safe? Steel shot I heard was destructive to your shotgun and is not a humane to dove because it has less knockdown power? So, what to use? Leaded or unleaded?

Also, is it safe to eat venison shot with lead shot?

I would imagine that it's easier to cut away the lead channel in a large deer shot with bigger buckshot pellets. In contrast, it is very difficult to cut away the lead chanels from a dove shot with tiny birdshot. What do y'all experienced hunters say?

There was a study done by some folks who were not lead ammo friendly (CDC I believe) which found that using traditional ammo and shot is not a cause for health concerns. Go out, shoot, enjoy the experience, eat, and be sure you have your hunting license!

On 12/21/12 when the Mayan calendar says the Earth will reverse polarity and everyone will fly off into Space due to a lack of gravity, I'd want enough lead in my diet to weight me down .... where'd I put my bowl of those those paint chips there's a game coming on later...

Don't chip a tooth on either lead nor steel though, sorta ruins a tooth.

Dove and lead shot - Don't know, I aim for their heads so I never hit 'em in their breastesses.
Not a dumb question. I've been hunting and eating them over the last 25 years and have only found a couple of pellets. Didn't think about the wound channels. I'm sure some small amount of lead gets deposited at least around the opening. But since I only eat them once a year, I'm not going to worry about it. Soak overnight in Italian dressing, wrap with bacon, grill, enjoy!

Ooooh, been there, done that. We fried up some pheasant at Thanksgiving, along with our turkey. Forgot I was chowing down on the pheasant, not being too careful, and got to go visit the dentist on the Friday after Thanksgiving.

You know they charge a whole lot more for those emergency visits...

Just give em a check while you are preparing to check for pellets. There will be an obvious entrance wound just massage the spot to see if there's anything hard. If so: remove and continue.

Overnight in Italian dressing. Fill half of a jalapeno (edit: I usually remove seeds )with cream cheese. place dove breast and the jap in a half strip of bacon, toothpick and grill! Can't be beat!
