"HOG WILD" AR-15 HUNTING RALLY!!!

Post by Ranger+P+ »

I have been in contact with alot of you about this event that me and some good friends have conceived and are in the process of planning.
In a nutshell, it is a hosted event financed by myself on my personal property (outside Lufkin, TX) that is being sponsored by the NRA. My goal is to promote the legitimate use of AR style rifles in hunting. (in this case hogs, a feral animal that requires no license to hunt.) Since Mr. Zumbo's stunt, I wanted to do something on a local and regional level to promote the legitamacy of the AR platform as a hunting rifle.

My plans are to gather as many volunteers as possible to help out--all of you that have experience teaching basic safety and use of rifles, please get in touch with me, I need as much help as possible. So far I have seven local businesses that have agreed to sponsor the event, providing things like food, drinks, hunting supplies, ammo and the like. I have a good friend who is donating a custom built AR rifle for a raffle!!

For advertising, I have some contacts at the local radio and news stations and am working out a deal--I am trying to get some news coverage for the event also. I am still in the early planning of this thing, so I have not set a concrete date, but am shooting for April-May.

I could really use the forums help on this-- please reply to this thread with what you can do to support the event--anything and everything is appreciated. It is times like this that we as folks that truly believe in the 2nd ammendment have to stop talking and stand up to action and do something constructive to counter the "anti-gun" rhetoric.

CAN YOU HELP ME??

Thanks

I will help in any way that you need. This sounds great. Count me in for a few tickets on that raffle also.

IM or email what you need.

Thanks for jumping in jrosto, at this point I need volunteers--I am going to handle all financial obligations on supplies etc.. with the help of the NRA and my sponsors I have got so far..

I need some good folks that can volunteer their time, energy and know-how. I need some instructors for the classes I plan on having, some qualified range masters to run my courses of fire, some help running the concession, etc..whatever you feel qualified to do.. let me know.

I know the problem we are going to have is setting a date so everybody can work their schedules to attend--right now I am figuring Mid-May or April--I hope that is enuff time.

Thanks--you guys are the best

Just got off the phone with an a old acquaintance, Lance Trussle, a PR guy for CMMG, he has agreed to sponsor the event and provide several AR's for use, Rock River, Bushy and DPMS have not got back to me.

My good training buddies at LaRue TActical have agreed to provide some of their excellent steel targets for our training classes.

I have alot of work still to do......

I salute your energy and enthusiasm, and I recognize your motivation.

And yet, I sadly conclude that this is somewhat misguided.

Just like Zumbo can't un-ring the bell by going AR hunting with Ted Nugent, this event misses the more important point: that ARs aren't "legitimized" by being proved suitable for "sporting purposes", but rather that "sporting purposes" are entirely secondary to the right to own, bear, and use firearms of all kinds, including those that actually are select-fire military arms, as well as those that resemble them.

This is your event; I don't presume to tell you what to do. But, if my tongue was loosened with a couple of Newcastle Brown Ales late at night in the company of friends, and one of them asked what I thought, I'd suggest this: entrants in such an event should have to earn the right to engage in the "sporting purpose" hog hunt, by proving their worthiness in a military rifle qualification.

A 600 meter random pop-up range would be great, but probably hard to arrange. Engaging fixed targets in called order, at various unknown ranges, would be a good substitute.

Remember: the right to keep and bear arms is not about "sporting purposes". Attempts to prove "sporting" legitimacy surrender the argument.

That said, I really do salute you, and wish you well in this.

two hours... no problem

Texarkana is only two hours north of you... I'll be there. I can run a concession, help with instructing, gun safety, whatever you need... and I'll go a good bit out of my way to be there.

I can also bring a couple other buddies who are also ex or retired LEO and are fully competent with AR rifles.

I'm curious about the proposed beneficiaries of this 'promotion'. Who will be 'taught'? And how will the 'feral hogs' come in to play?

I'm not an instructor, not much experience as a hunter and I've fired an AR type rifle only once at a range. But it does sound interesting. How can I participate?

The beneficiaries are anybody who would like to come, hopefully newcomers to the AR or hunters who have always been curious. As far as being taught, anybody who wants some basic safety and marksmanship-- This is a free event (minus concessions)--hosted/financed by me and I am getting support from the NRA and lot of local businesses.

If you have no experience as an instructor and are not that familiar with the AR, you are my target audience!! Come on out and have fun.
If you want to volunteer, we can find a spot for you also. As you can see, alot of good folks on this forum are doing that.

I will be posting the lastest update tonight.

That's what I'm talking about! Keep me informed!

Uh, I hope the term 'target' was used metaphorically ;-)
