Re: I want a 1911
Here's the skinny on flaws, every manufacturer will make guns with flaws and at times there will be more flawed guns on the market than normal. This is just life with production hardware, even Glocks have had issues like my former Gen4. I carry a Series II Kimber more than 90% of the time, I'm not worried about it failing and I know it will go bang if I need it to. You will hear stories from people about how a friend of a friend's cousin's fiance's uncle owned Brand X and it never worked right, some times will hear about how someone with first hand experience had the issue. My advice is to buy the gun you want, shoot it for the break in period (Not to wear the gun to itself but to break you into it) and if there are issues make sure its not operator error then have them fixed. Once the gun, or operator, fixed do the break in period again (Even if it was operator error) to make sure you and the gun work well together. As for a gun should run out of the box All my 1911s have, infact I can only think of two handguns I have ever owned that didn't run out of the box. The first was a Taurus M44 revolver in 44 mag that would not extract easily (chambers were too tight), the second was a Gen4 Glock that failed to cycle properly on the very first shot out of the box (among other issues).
How do you explain a dog named Sauer without first telling the story of a Puppy named Sig?

Re: I want a 1911
i would definitely look at the STI ....i want i want
but since my rock island armory is friggin awesome im gonna get the compact tactical model next ...4" with tactical sights , some list it as officers model
ive seen it as low as 432.00 but lately they been sold out ( i bet i know why
) the logo kinda stinks but the guns are sweet ,its a carry gun . no ones gonna see it right ?
your hard pressed to find a bad review .
im cheap and thats why i am a fan , i cant see spending $1000 + on that technology when i could have 2 functional accurate weapons
if i were to drop the $$ i would get a Colt (new agent)
either brand u pick i like your style

Re: I want a 1911
I have heard a lot of good things about RIA 1911's being a good value for money. I actually held one in a LGS one day (another customer handed it to me and asked what I thought) and I was impressed with the quality for the price.
It might be the best option for a first time 1911 purchaser. They get a good gun for a low price and if they end up not liking the 1911 platform (which would be hard for me to believe) they could sell it and not loose much money.
If it turns out that they "can't believe they never bought a 1911 before and love it" they could get a more upscale one for their 2nd 1911 and keep the RIA as a backup. After all, we all know that 1911's tend to multiply like rabbits!

Re: I want a 1911
AEA, accurate assessment. I've owned 2 rock islands. Are they as tricked out as other brands? Decidedly not, but the only issue I ever had with either was a bad magazine causing f2f. Once that mag was thrown away, both guns were dead on reliable.
If you know you like and want a 1911, there's nothing wrong going with a "nicer" model.
If you're just 1911 curious, I think a RIA is a great way to find out if the platform is for you.

Thanks to everyone for the feedback!!
I took at look at the RIA and STI but ultimately I went with the Kimber Compact CDP II.
I am now the proud owner of a 1911!
Thanks

If you like salsa made in New York City, you'll love a handgun made 5 miles outside New York City.

Never had any trouble with any of our Kimbers.

Re: I want a 1911
Kimbers are bad guns. I know this first-hand, from random posts I've read on the internetz
Seriously, congrats. That's going to be a joy to shoot, carry, and own.

Congrats on your purchase, get some pics up and some rounds down range. Have fun and enjoy your new acquisition.
