Why do they do this?

Post by Venus Pax »

I've made two seperate purchases from AJC Sports of Clute, TX at the Houston-area gun shows. Why do they insist on running a background check on me when I have a perfectly good CHL?
(Yes, I asked them. I didn't get a decent answer.)

The NRA & TSRA are a bargain; they're much cheaper than the cold, dead hands experience.

For the same reason that many dealers insist on a 4473 & NICS when I buy a C&R item from them, despite my C&R FFL. Ignorance. Fear. Excess of Caution. Complete misunderstanding of the relevant laws.

Take your pick.

What answer did you get?

I remember at least four gun show purchases from AJC. The last one was about a year ago.

In all cases, they took my CHL in lieu of the NICS.

Not sure what their reasoning is.

I too have bought two firearms from them over the past year and they did not run the NICS. You must look shady ;-)

I have purchased a couple of guns from AJC, including my AR15. To be honest, I did not pay attention to what they did with my CHL. It just does not matter to me as long as I leave with the gun!

I have made several purchases from AJC at the San Antonio gun shows and my CHL was always enough.

Eh? I bought my Benelli from them at the gunshow and they didn't NIC me. Maybe it depends on the individual doing your paper work?

Maybe a new employee who needs more training? I have bought several guns from them and CHL was accepted in lieu of a NICS check,

Then I concur that you probably had a new employee.

Maybe they thought you looked like a news reporter?
