Interesting, I own no gun that can readily accept a silencer.jimlongley wrote:http://silencersarelegal.com/legalshoot/index.html

Cool. Glad they're putting on this type of event.
I'd love to have a suppressed .22 rifle/pistol combo someday just for the sheer joy of being able to plink without earplugs.

Not since 1934 they haven't. The federal $200 tax stamp is a defense to prosecution, but silencers/suppressors are illegal in Texas.alvins wrote:did i miss somthing?silencers have been legal in texas for quite a while?

With the state creating a valid use for them, perhaps getting a signature will be easier.

I read on another forum that the need for a signature is going away, but you can avoid that right now by setting up a trust.Mike1951 wrote:With the state creating a valid use for them, perhaps getting a signature will be easier.

Re: Silencers are legal!
There's been a big push lately to educate the public about the benefits of suppressors, spearheaded in part by that one group people like to complain about not actually doing anything for gun rights *cough* NRA *cough*.alvins wrote:did i miss somthing?silencers have been legal in texas for quite a while?
Here in Texas, a recent rule change allows hunters to use suppresses when going after game animals which was previously prohibited.
Some may doubt this, but I believe we may be on a "baby steps" approach to possibly even remove suppressors from the NFA, perhaps even moving towards getting the NFA completely repealed.
One can dream, anyway.

Um, the Texas Penal Code says that "firearm silencers" are illegal. Or does the Penal code lie?Longshot38 wrote:Carry-a-Kimber wrote:Not since 1934 they haven't. Carry-a-Kimber is correct. Relevant bit of code (46.05) here, with a link to the actual code:

It is kind of tough to call something illegal when the law allows you to own it and even provides a legal use for it.

Just like it is illegal to conceal a handgun on your person, and a CHL is a defense to prosecution.SRH78 wrote:It is kind of tough to call something illegal when the law allows you to own it and even provides a legal use for it.

Speaking of silencers, this was in the Chronicle today. Says they are legal.

Do they mean a Barrett 50 cal sniper rifle?
