Analyze these shell casings.

Post by stroguy »

Enjoying my new SIG P220. Put about 80 down range today and when I went to collect a few of the cases, this is what I saw.

Image

If I did start reloading would these be disqualified cases? The desk clerk at CC says with a resizer they would be ok. What is the consensus here? I am 50/50 as to feeling comfortable. It's a pretty well defined nick.

You will get answers both ways - keep and reload and toss as unusable. I would not keep em - but I also don't reload handgun or rifle rounds. The Sigs seem to make that mark more than others - but it is a common thing to a lot of guns and does not affect performance. Could be the extra beefy extractor catching the case as it rotates out.

:iagree: You will get answers both ways. I have reloaded casings that looked worse, but it is your decision. Empty cases are pretty inexpensive relative to the other components. If you think that they are not safe then toss them.

I would definitely discard to be safe. I don't know if an extractor would catch on the cylindrical portion. Almost appears that the case is catching on the top rim of the chamber as it's forced in. Maybe feeding at an angle with the rear of casing higher than the front??

I knew that going in, just trying to get a 6-5 electoral college vote for a thumbs up or thumbs down to the question of no I should not throw them away.

I use to really hoard brass, but have since reached the conclusion that 9mm brass is kind of like roaches. They seem to breed and there are always more of them around that you thought. If a 9mm brass is suspect at all, I simply toss it in the recycle bucket.

I would keep them. They don't look bad at all to me. The resizing die should be able to straighten that out. I typically not worry too much about .45ACP brass unless there are stress fractures or cracks. That's just me though. Like others have said, it is up to you.

I'd probably keep them. I'd at least throw them in the tumbler and have a closer look when they were clean.
