Sending weapon to manufacturer, is FFL needed for return?
I have a Ruger 22/45 Mark III that is having a few issues.
I may have resolved them, but if my range time this weekend doesn't show the issue is resolved, I will need to send the weapon back to Ruger.
They have given me the details on how to return it, but my question is, when they ship it back to me, do I need to have it sent to an FFL or as I already own it, will they be able to send it to me directly?
Paying an FFL fee, as I have seen at The Arms Room of $60 seems crazy for my own weapon, so I hope not!
Thanks

If you ship it to them yourself it will be returned directly too you. If you have an ffl ship it, it will go back to them.

Did Ruger email you the pre-paid UPS shipping label? That is their usual approach for warranty work.

I'd be interesting to hear how ruger handles this if you send it
I've got a 22/45 I think needs to go back, fail to eject issues

No, because they want to inspect it first to see if it will be "warranty" work or if they will bill me for any workJumping Frog wrote: That is their usual approach for warranty work.
My issues are fail to load, sometimes, almost like the round is sitting too low in the magazine (weak springs after 3000 rounds?) and it hits the slide ramp at too sharp an angle and gets pinched.rentz wrote:I've got a 22/45 I think needs to go back, fail to eject issues
Once in a while, I will have a casing fail to fully extract from the chamber, and rarely, i have a casing not pull out at all, and I need to get a small screwdriver or knife to pry it out.

You get a box that will hold your weapon. You must use Fedex or UPS and tell them you are shipping a firearm. They will inspect the package. You cannot use a standard UPS storefront but must use a hub.
Here for UPS instructions that you need to read:

Oh! In that case, you can try a magazine modification. There is a thread on Rugerforum.net that details what can done. You might also check in to buying new magazine springs or a new mag. It also sounds like a Volquartsen extractor should be in your immediate future. All of those together should cost less than shipping.Teamless wrote: My issues are fail to load, sometimes, almost like the round is sitting too low in the magazine (weak springs after 3000 rounds?) and it hits the slide ramp at too sharp an angle and gets pinched.

NEVER had them to inspect the package. I am sent a label from the manufacturer, stick it on and hand it to the employee.DocV wrote:You get a box that will hold your weapon. DocV, have you done this work yourself or just knowledgeable on the subject?DocV wrote:Oh! In that case, you can try a magazine modification. I ask, as I was pre-warned when I bought the pistol to "not try to take it apart yourself, or you will be bringing it back to us for re-assembly", they specifically called it a "gun in a bag".
Now, I am not the most technical person in the world, but think I should be able to do so, especially with some of the Youtube video's out there, but are there any pitfalls I should be aware of.
Also, I did buy 2 new magazines this past weekend, they are hard to find!
And I have looked for magazine springs, but cant seem to find those either.

Yes, I did it all myself. Not a problem at all. Whomever told you not to take apart your pistol did you a great disservice. You should be able to do a basic field strip using the instructions in the owners manual. Work slow.Teamless wrote:

The major pitfall is thinking you can't do it. Go slow and be confident. In addition to MidwayUSA You can also find springs and parts on shopruger.com. Also put http://www.gunpartscorp.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; into your bookmarks.
Mark III 22/25 mags are tough to find but cdnninvestments usually has some: http://www.cdnninvestments.com/rumk222210ma.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

DocV, thanks for the detailed response, and the company that did the disservice, believe it or not, was The Arms Room...

I have never seen them inspect the package but when I sent my LC9 to Ruger the shipping instructions were to not seal the box.wgoforth wrote: NEVER had them to inspect the package. I am sent a label from the manufacturer, stick it on and hand it to the employee.
Informing the carrier is a must do according to the ATF:
http://www.atf.gov/firearms/faq/unlicen ... ms-carrier" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Q: May a nonlicensee ship a firearm by common or contract carrier?
A nonlicensee may ship a firearm by a common or contract carrier to a resident of his or her own State or to a licensee in any State. A common or contract carrier must be used to ship a handgun. In addition, Federal law requires that the carrier be notified that the shipment contains a firearm and prohibits common or contract carriers from requiring or causing any label to be placed on any package indicating that it contains a firearm.
