Jury Duty

Post by Rex B »

OK, got jury duty coming up. I know I can't carry in a courthouse. But this leaves me unarmed during a good part of the day - during lunch, and getting to and from wherever I have to park.

Any suggestions or am I just (Edited 10 Year Old Daughter Rule)?

I know the few times I had jury duty at the Dallas Court house it was pretty much locked down. I took my bike so I was wearing my Biker boots with helmet in hand. They made me take my boots off and run them threw the X-ray machine along with my helmet(scratching it in the process) The boots cause the type I had have a metal strip running down the middle of the insole for protection. At first they didn't want me to take my helmet in cause they said it could be used as a club. With much persuasion I was allowed to keep it. But then they saw my wallet. I had to leave it with the front desk cause it had a chain attached to it. And My argument of it being there as an anti theft device was only humorous to them. My advice to you is to take as little as possible (Drivers Licence, Jury duty card, and cash) cause they dont allow anything.

Naked

I'll be surprised if Tarrant co. is that anal.
If so, I'll know to show up naked with my Juror badge taped to my bare chest.

That's one way to get out of jury duty.

I just went through 2 weeks of possibly being selected for federal jury duty. Just had to call an 800 number and check every few days. Didn't get called in.

helmet as a club? lol, you should of told them you were packing two pythons to do you bidding. Do they think a fist is less dangerous than a helmet?

The last time I had jury duty, a guy showed up wearing cut-offs, a "wife-beater," and sandals. The judge told him to go home and change, and not to even dream about failing to come back.

Lock it up in your vehicle...As it stands now, you'll just have to grin and bear it...

I've not liked the inevitability of what you have to do and sacrifice to do your civic duty...

But if thats what ya gotta do now, I'd commend you for sticking to the process and doing that duty...

You know, I'll say this again...Wouldn't it just be grand if we (few) were trusted enough to be able to come and participate in this process, yet be given the courtesy (professional or just plain respectful courtesy) to be allowed to safely and discretely check our firearms in before we gladly enter into the "secured" areas of a facility like this???

This just happens to be one of my pet peeves that has bothered me for ohhh, say about 10 years or so...

But when you think about it...Odds are that our presense, and state of mind are not condusive for most in that voi-dire process...

I'm usually gone in about 10 minutes anyway...

Keeping your helmet and wallet is pretty bad so far even airport security isn't that bad aside from the no liquids or lighters garbage.
It is easier to get an airport security clearance than a CHL

I would be happy even it wasn't discrete.

I've had jury duty in Houston three times in the last ten years. If possible, take public transportation. I never use the bus, but it sure beats trying to find a parking space and then walking to the courthouse. They pay for the bus pass, so it doesn't cost to get there and you are dropped off at the door. That eliminates the "getting to and from" part.

If selected, and while serving on the jury, an armed LEO escorted us to and from lunch every day.

The last time I went, a lady was evicted from the courtroom when she was discovered to be carrying a "concealed cat" (the person sitting next to her complained). They do a pretty good search at the courthouse entrance, so I have no idea how she managed to sneak it through.

I tend to get picked for jury duty every time I get called. My only consolation is the trials have been interesting. I've done two 5 day trials; one for a home invasion and the other was a "driveway robber". The third time I was picked, I managed to convince the judge that I could not give the guy a fair trial and he agreed to release me from the jury.

Bring a good book.
