Excerpt:
On April 16, 2007, my child, Leslie Sherman, was killed by Seung-Hui Cho
during the Virginia Tech massacre. ...
... Several family members of those victims have
actively voiced their support for increased gun control measures. As
result, it has been assumed that they speak for all families of the
Virginia Tech victims. ...
Speaking for myself, I would give anything if someone on campus; a
professor, one of the trained military or guardsman taking classes or
another student could have saved my daughter by shooting Cho before he
killed our loved ones. Because professors, staff and students are
precluded from protecting themselves on campus, Cho, a student at
Virginia Tech himself, was able to simply walk on campus and go on a
killing rampage with no worry that anyone would stop him.

Re: Virginia Tech Parent speaks out for Campus Carry
The real tragedy is that those opposed to concealed carry on campus never can get out of their cocoon long enough to objectively evaluate the facts. They just go off and seem to rant about giving children guns. In Texas one would still need to be 21 in most cases, vetted by the state and FBI, have the money to invest in the licensing process and the purchase of a suitable device and the ammunition and training to use it properly. They seem to fear that a license holder would go off on a mindless venture, yet it seems never to happen outside of the school environment. As often stated, only those who disregard the laws are armed on campus.
The problem is not entirely with the Texas legislature. They will vote for anything if the stack of cash is high enough. College administrators are very well educated, but that education is narrowly focused. If we (and you know who you are) could educate these folks, just one at a time, you could overcome the logjam that is the legislature and get the them to pass enabling legislation to permit campus carry.

Well, emotion is all they have to go with. Facts just muddle things up for them.gdanaher wrote:The real tragedy is that those opposed to concealed carry on campus never can get out of their cocoon long enough to objectively evaluate the facts. Any type of killing is so bad. I heartily dislike killing. Also your post related killing I dislike too. Your virginia facts related post is so sad post from yours.

I dislike killing too... In fact, there's only one thing I dislike more.... BEING KILLED.Nevada wrote:Any type of killing is so bad. I heartily dislike killing. Also your post related killing I dislike too. Your virginia facts related post is so sad post from yours.
I promise never to kill anyone that doesn't intend to do me harm first.

Now, can I have your permission to have a gun?

Re: Virginia Tech Parent speaks out for Campus Carry
Yes, killing is bad. Being killed is worse. If you have seen combat, felt the wind as a bullet parted the air near your face, you understand. If you have not had the experience, no amount of talk can well describe it.

Re: Virginia Tech Parent speaks out for Campus Carry
I've just graduated from Lone Star College Montgomery and they have a 2nd Amendment club. It's a great forum for getting good information out to people generally opposed to campus concealed carry. The people there are doing a great job to provide rationale for self-defense extending onto campus with those who are responsible enough to obtain their license.

Re: Virginia Tech Parent speaks out for Campus Carry
Remember that when we educate for Texas, campus carry is already legal. We are trying to extend it to the buildings. I think it is very important that every person in the state of Texas knows for a fact that campus carry is and has been legal and there is no blood in the streets.
Tomorrow is the most important thing in life. Comes into us at midnight very clean. It's perfect when it arrives and it puts itself in our hands. It hopes we've learned something from yesterday. John Wayne

Re: Virginia Tech Parent speaks out for Campus Carry
Good point, because some other States are trying to get "Campus Carry" approved, for the grounds and parking lots, but exclude buildings, and we already have that. So we already have Campus Carry, but are trying to expand it so we can use the bathroom inside a building without breaking the law..4copas wrote:Remember that when we educate for Texas, campus carry is already legal. Sorry, but I think it should be "CHL's may carry anywhere they legally have a lawful right to be.”

But that makes sense. It'll never fly.MeMelYup wrote:Sorry, but I think it should be "CHL's may carry anywhere they legally have a lawful right to be.”
