Ammo Question.

Hi folks, I wasnt sure where to put this post and I havent been able to find any information on these JHP's I have they are my dads and he baught them a LONG time ago and he baught them at a gun show, my question is does anyone know what type of .45 acp JHP that have a hudge cavity with the brass cut into a star pattern, on the bottom of the bullett it has a Star two dashes and another star and thats all it says other than .45 acp.

any information would be helpful.

The bullet sounds like the old Speer 200 gr "flying ashtray" The brass sounds like Starline brass. The ammo is most probably custom loaded. The flying ashtray was a good bullet for it's time there are better designs nowadays.

ok outstanding thank you, and LOL thats exactly what the bullet looks like a flying ashtray LOL and I use Hornady Critical Defence rounds 180 grain in my 1911 atm. are there better rounds than that? I was wanting to get some ranger T's for my .45 because I have them for my .40 and from what I have seen they look to be pretty good, I also like the water proof primers just incase it gets wet it would still go bang.

I don't know how many ammo makers used flying ashtrays, but the factory ones I used to use were Cor-bons.

With it being Starline brass that's probably who loaded it.

Any ammo is good or bad depending on who is shooting it. A good solid hit to the boiler room with a FMJ beats a miss with the latest wunderbullet. The secret is just like real estate location, location, location.

I totally agree, Im also a fantastic shot i've been shooting since i was 9 and im 25 now
