Jennings pistol

I got a hold of my mother in law's Jennings Model 25 .25 caliber pistol. It's a nice enough looking gun but don't know much about it. Couldn't find a while lot on the internet either other than it's a piece of crap that is even dangerous to shoot. Anyone know any info or what I should do with it?

I will admit that I have a Jennings 9mm--won't sell it or give it away--they are just dangerous junk. It just sits in the safe with the other guns.

I had a pot-metal toy pistol as a kid ... some Davis or Jennings pistols seemed to be of the same metal.
Actually, some "could become" collectors items ... if enough get turned in/destroyed/thrown away ... and could sit in a museum some day ... as people "remember grandpa had one" or something.

Agree on gun buy back.
I like this idea for two reasons:
1) You will get far more for it than you could unless you took advantage of some poor unsuspecting moron and the cops will destroy it for you.
2) It uses up the liberal's money.

I would have bought a box of real hot ammo for it and insisted that my loon of an ex-mother in law keep it and target shoot with it often!

Im kidding of course. i think. Anyway, that buy back idea is pretty sharp unless of course it has sentimental value. Then keep it in the safe or whatever you please, but maybe remove the firing pin or cut the trigger bar so that the gun still looks the same but cannot hurt anyone.

Just stumbled onto this thread. I still have an old Jennings J-22 - the .22lr version. Bought it maybe 35 to 40 years ago. Seemed like a good idea at the time and it was CHEAP.

While they are obviously cheaply made and there is no way I'd want to carry it with one in the chamber, or have to carry it at all for that matter, I do have to say that over the years I've put a couple of boxes of ammo through it and amazingly never had any problems. Always fired and always fed. Horrible trigger pull though. Makes the double action pull on my Taurus revolver seem like a fine target trigger.

BTW, while I've also always found Cooper's remark funny I suspect it was very much intended as simply humorous. I doubt the Col. or anyone on this forum would volunteer to be shot with a .25acp. Wouldn't be very effective as a defensive man stopper but can still kill just as dead.

If it has sentimental value, take the firing pin out and put it in the safe. I'd at least leave it where it was capable of returning it to service. If necessary, it could alwasy be used as 'barter material' to someone who doesn't know better. I wouldn't shoot it a lot as it has a pot metal slide and will fatigue and crack with much use. Perhaps shoot a magazine through it, then take it apart, clean it, take the firing pin out of it, and put it away. I had one MANY years ago. Not very accurate. And the 25 is a very weak round.

Years ago I had a co-worker get shot with a 25 by some punk in an robbery at a gas station (at night). He was wearing a denim jacket and the bullet stopped just under the skin. Guy had to get a few stitches and was back at work in a couple days.

With the firing pin removed it could be an interesting addition to one of those "in case of Zombies break glass" shadow box displays.
