Chavez bans gun ownership in Venezuela

The BBC writes the article not from the standpoint of "oh yes this is what all evil dictators do" but from the standpoint of "Venezuela has a high gun murder rate, this is naturally what you should do".

When will they learn. Is it such a hard concept to understand?

When guns are outlawed only outlaws will have guns.

In related news, I wonder if Chavez has his AK factory up and running yet.

Going to need them to suppress those violent criminals in Venezuela with their .22s and sporting shotguns.

I feel for the people there. They already have a staggeringly high murder rate, and this is only going to end in purges/govt sanctioned murder.

Chavez is preparing to nationalize everything and appoint himself president for life - he wants no armed resistance.

Considering his health, it may be a short term.

But you can bet the thugs/party that helped put him there are determined to keep power once he's gone.

I'd bet that's what this is about. Make them illegal now, so when his party attempts to hang on to power they won't have much opposition.

I'd say EXTREMELY short term. Won't be surprised if the cancer that's slowly killing him takes him out before the end of the month. Cancer is a terrible, terrible disease, and it's killed every one of my family members but me. I've seen what it can do too many times. I can also say that I don't feel one bit of remorse for the Schadenfreude I feel for this guy.
I don't fear guns; I fear voters and politicians that fear guns.

BINGO! HE has the "cult of personality" thing going on with some percentage of the population...but whoever follows him won't. So, he's "setting them up for success" by banning guns now...its going to get really bad there, probably in the near future. This business in Syria, while certainly tragic, will seem like a drop in the bucket if what happens in Venezuela follows form...but, of course, the press will cover for them because they are good little socialists...hey, if some of those dirty, Venezuelan "teabilly peasants" have to be "removed" for the good of the "Venezuelan peoples' democratic socialist republic" well that's just dandy with the leftists in our part of the world. :mad5 :cryin

More Guns, Less Crime: Understanding Crime and Gun-Control Laws [Paperback]

Reader Review of book:
By Dalton C. Rocha
Format:Paperback
I read this book , here in Brazil.I'm an agronomist(jobless) and I like to read books.

The main idea of this book is simple. When the citizens have more guns, they become more safe and free. The so called "politically correct" puts this book and this believe, in a devilish thinking.

Well, here in Brazil, we have terrible and draconian gun-control laws.Every year, there's more selling of air travels Brazil-Japan, than gun's sells to brazilian population. To have the right to carry any gun, is so dificult, that there's LESS than 1 to more than 2,000,000 souls in Brazil. To buy any ammunition is a nightmarish task, full of burocracy and dozens of papers.Almost all brazilian gun-shops are over.

The result is that there's MORE crimes in Brazil, than any other coountry in the world.Iraq has LESS crime than Brazil.Venezuela who has gun control laws similars to Brazil's laws, also has big crime rates.Argentine and Uruguay, who have more liberal gun-control laws also have less crime than Brazil or Venezuela.
