I just changed my address need info

Post by tommyg »

My boss decided that I needed to move to Austin (like it or not) from Arlington
I have been in temporary housing from May 14 until now. I moved into a
permanent residence on the 17 th of June.I just did my online address change
for my driver’s license and my CHL. When I did my driver’s license it came up
saying my driver's license was no longer valid by itself. I did the on line change
for My ChL within an hour of the driver's license change. Now I have five pages
of print outs three for my driver license and two pages for my chl
Do I have to carry all of this paper work with me to be legal to drive and carry?
It seems ridicules that I heed to carry the five pages of paper with me at all times . :mad5

What do they want me to do carry a filing cabinet on my back all the time :biggrinjester:

I can't answer directly as for the DL requirements, and since I have a CDL, I've never been granted the pleasure of changing my driver license address online. When last I changed my DL address (at a DPS office) I was given a printout of the modified DL, complete with picture, and it was a paper copy, valid for all purposes.

I *think* for DL purposes, based on my wife's experience with the same change of address, she carried her old DL along with the printout from the online change of address, and the two documents together served as both ID and legal address change...

As for the CHL, when last I changed my address (again, the same move) I was able to do it online, and the old CHL, along with the prinout of the form from the change of address served as proper documentation.

So, to answer your question, yes, I think for the time being, you must carry your old DL, your old CHL, and the two updated "receipt" forms for complete and proper documentation.

I still find it ironic that as a CDL/CHL holder, I can update my CHL with a simple online form, but to update my DL, I must go in person and stand in line...

You can update your DL on line. I moved last year and updated both my CHL & DL online.

I'm betting you don't have a commercial DL.
When in doubt

cbunt1 did. A CDL is a "commercial driver license".

tommy-

did you ever find out if you are supposed to carry the 5 pages of paper work with you in order to carry?

I did my address change online this week and was wondering if I need to carry the paper work with me.

Thanks.
