Springfield Micro Compact .45

I've decided a Micro single stack .45 is the next purchase..
The store I was about to get a XDs from today, raised the price over night,, because of how many people were interested in it... I will not support price gouging, more so from the Army Post exchange that is supposed to be supporting the Soldiers...,, But that is another thread..
So it's wait for that gun to come in to Quantico Tactical

Do you have one now? or past?
Very interested in OWNERS OPINIONS of this gun....

Issues you have had, from ammo selection that works / does not work. Broken parts if any, upgrades or reliability fixes done you felt were required and any other observations..

It's a public board, and responses are free but I really am only interested in those from folks that OWN one, or did... A friends gun, a rental, or what someone read on a article is not what Im looking for .. Thank you in advance..

As far as reliability goes, I've only ever had one issue with my gun, and it was fixed within a week or so of purchasing it 4 years ago. There was a problem with the slide stop which would cause the slide to lock back on a magazine that still had rounds in it. Another forum member advised me that this was a problem of which Kimber was aware, and that some guns had shipped with a defectively shaped slide stop lever which caused this problem. I phoned them, and they were indeed aware of it, and they sent me a replacement part which I received a few days later in the mail. The new part dropped right in without fitting, and the gun has run flawlessly since then, to the tune of about 2,000 rounds or so. So other than that hiccup, the ownership experience has been nothing but positive. BTW, that "defective" slide stop lever has spent the last 3.5 years residing in my son's Taurus PT1911 with no reliability issues at all.....so go figure.....

The pistol is surprisingly easy to shoot accurately with such a short sight radius, and it manages recoil suprisingly well for such a small and relatively light pistol. The one upgrade I made to mine was to add an aftermarket ambidextrous safety lever as I am left-handed and the gun came with only a right handed lever. My gun also has the factory installed night sights which are still nice and bright, 4 years later.

I have no regrets about having bought it, and it is a very good gun. I am selling it only because there is another gun I want to buy (an XDm45 Compact), and I have two 1911s. The other is a 5" gun, and if I am going to have only one 1911 for now, I'd prefer to keep the 5 incher. If it weren't for my desire to have the new gun without negatively affecting my cash flow picture, I would keep the Kimber AND buy the XDm.

Others have posted that they are having a negative experience with their Kimber ownership. I can sympathise, and who knows....maybe their QC and customer service has declined. That has not been my own experience.

Both of my nephews have had the micros since Christmas before last and have had no issues. I didn't notice much difference between them and my Colt Defender. Both shot about the same.....they are the same relative frame size (EMP also).

I've carried a Kimber Ultra Tactical II for over 10 years now with no issues. It even has the dreaded external extractor...

As an aside, I'd hesitate to buy a firearm from AAFES. Their prices are ridiculous, not just on firearms, but on everything. The only way I would buy from them is if they honor their price match guarantee on firearms. That price match is the only thing that makes them worth shopping at. When I bought a fridge for my new house, I found the exact same model for $650 less than AAFES...at Best Buy of all places.

Agreed; however at the time, they were the only one with this gun on hand.. But after the high initial quoted price was raised AGAIN, for no more reason then they could. I refuse to purchase from them. (“AAFES Serving the Best Customers in the World for Over 114 Years!”) Ya, right. More like price gouging a captive audience for over 114 years.

Check out XD Talk for a number of folks who already have an XD-S and have sent rounds down range. Just one or two who haven't been entirely pleased so far from what I've seen, and no real issues that have popped up just yet. It's on the top of my list to pick up, but I'll be waiting a while for them to become readily available here in West Texas. The ones that have come in were snapped up immediately.

NEB, thanks, I’m on XD Talk as well. I own two XD types right now.

I’ve had the gun in my hand, I might learn to like it, but do not at this point. Was willing to buy it anyway and see if it grew on me, then sell if not.. But at the buy in price, and the fact I sold the rifle I needed to fund a higher end Micro .45... that DOES feel right in my hand, point well, and shoot well for me.... I’m going to skip the XDs for now.

No problem. I just figured out that I got your intent in the original thread a little twisted. Thought you were asking specifically about the XD-S as opposed to the micro compact.
