The road a dirt are very different. Someone great in the dirt can be horrible on the road. I've ridden motorcycles for over 30 years and just recently sold my Hayabusa. I sort of miss it, but not much. I like my new rifle and did my first IDPA match and even my wife thinks what I'm doing now is safer than riding. I am NOT going to miss riding in the summer in Texas. The Texas heat doesn't get any cooler at 60mph.

Here is a handy thing I learned from stop & go traffic in San Diego for 6 years. Harley wants you to use their oil--ok, I get it. But I got sick of my FXSTI overheating in the summer, especially when we would be cruising downtown San Diego. It happened SEVERAL times.. I know it's air cooled, but still-annoying. So after a few years I got sick of the HD oil and did it myself using Royal Purple. I never had an overheating problem again, and according to the temp guage in the oil pan that I installed, the engine ran around 40 degrees cooler.

Definitely switching out to synthetic at the 3000 mile mark. I hear similar advice from other folks as well! Appreciate the recommendation for Royal Purple.

You might not think you need it but do take the beginners safety course, PLS. I road bike for 30 years when I took the safety course with my wife. I found out why I did some of the things and found out I was doing some wrong. It is worth the money and time, and it saves on the insurence(10%). Check around the HD classes are not the cheapest.

That's a beautiful Road King. When I bought my Wide Glide, I sent a picture to my wife and said if followed my home. I still have it.

Oh, I already took it. You actually have to now in Texas (since 2009, I think) to get your license (and I would have even if it wasn't required).
