Certified vs. 1st Class

Post by paulbrodt »

What's the difference between certified mail and first class mail? Is there first class certified mail? I want to go mail my packet today but I am a little uncertain what service to use. I know not to send it in a way that they will have to sign for it, so is FEDEX out of the question?

Any time you buy a stamp and stick something in the mailbox, that is First Class mail. Nothing special about it.

Certified mail is tracked by numbers and barcodes at every point where it gets handled.

Greetings--

Send your packet Certified, Return Receipt.

This way, it will be tracked, signed for upon receipt and you will get a return card stating when , where and by whom it was received.

Well I just sent it out, certified mail. I think I looked over the forms 20 different times trying to make sure everything was filled out correctly.

I sent mine out Feb 27th certified mail with return receipt. Today it is the 6th of March. I am tracking it an it does not show to be in Austin yet. I hope that they check the mail soon.

calvinbr,
If you are tracking that USPS certified mail receipt number, don't bother.

The USPS doesn't scan them when they get to Austin. My last USPS tracking thing mailed to the DPS in Austin never did show to be received, ever!!

Better to go to the DPS webpage,
https://www.texasonline.state.tx.us/NAS ... AppManager

Check your status there, of your PIN #. They are slow to update, but your status will show up eventually.

There has been discussions here that will say not to send in your app by certified mail. When you do it will be signed for by someone in the recieving department where it will sit a couple of days with the rest of all the recieved shipments. I sent mine in by regular mail and they had the check cashed in 3 business days. But I am sure that there are people on here that have had a bad experience sending it in by regular mail.

certified mail???

Why? So you can 'prove' they received it? Who cares? If 'they' lose it, you will still have to resubmit original documents.

I put mine in the mail today, certified, return receipt requested. The Postal Clerk told me they should have it by Monday.
What is the PIN you are talking about? Where do you get that? :???:

Personal Identification Number. DPS will assign you one. If you request it, they will send it to you and you can check the status of your CHL. (It will say 'processing' until it finally says "issued".

If you are not in a hurry, they will send it to you in 4 years when it is time to renew.
