My Secret gun project: Cool Converted Saiga. (Photos added)

Post by Beiruty »

I am building a new Cool Converted Saiga 12, It would be really cool. However so far, I am not sharing info on this site. It is a secret project, no? Once 90-95% completed and accessorized. I will post photos and try to explain the journey of be your "part time" gunsmith.

Wife said, let the gunsmith build it for you, My answer was silence and plan to execute my little secret plan. :smilelol5:

a little secret is out: Guess who helped build it? My wife. :thewave

Nice. I put my Kushnapup together about a month ago. Maybe I am just stupid, but the "instructions" where painfully inadequate as they missed several major points which I don't think I would have figured out on my own. I am still wondering if I got the full instructions from the factory. There is a good series of instructions that I was able to find with an internet search from a fellow who had already done the conversion, complete with photos that made a huge difference.

I am curious, do you plan to cut the tangs off? I decided not to and put a large limbsaver recoil pad on to cover. Once the tangs are off, no going back. It is a cool product and works great for me, but I am not totally happy about Bjorn expecting me to saw off the tangs.

No going back for me, the tangs are chopped using a rotary dremel cutting disc. If I need to, I will install and plug for side folder. Why should I go back? The Kush is functional and works and 90% well designed. Sure you have hope for some minor improvements in version 2.0 of the kit. It is good starting point.

Big thanks and double thumbs up for Thomas at Mckinney store of Cheaper than dirt, who installed the custom rail on the rear sight post with no request from myself nor hesitation on his part. He loves AK and Saiga is an AK. :woohoo

:thumbs2: :thumbs2: for Cheaperthandirt, you will own a loyal customer.

Pardon my ignorance, but is this gun in 7.62x39, .308 Winchester, 12 gauge?

Looks slick! I want to fire one myself. Since it isn't really feasible to go from a converted S12 to a Kushnapup'd S12, I won't be trying this on mine. I sure still want to see what it feels like to fire one though! Nifty idea, and great to see the whole thing finally came through.

Now then... if Mike D. over at MD Arms would just release those double stack magazines... hehe. :biggrinjester:

It warms my cockles to see that somebody put my Kushnapup kit to good use!

(No, I don't know what cockles are, but I'm pretty sure they're warm right now -- in this weather, how could they NOT be? :smilelol5: )

They're the parts that aren't mussels. At least I think that's what Molly Malone said. :headscratch

That looks like a fun project Beiruty. I especially like the Ralph Lauren towel to catch any AK grease.
