I've got it bad....
Every. Single. Time. I look at a picture of the Ruger Gunsite Scout, and I start trying to figure out what I have to sell to pay for one. I've already got a very nice R700 bolt rifle in .308 which is really accurate, and a really nice AR10 .308 which is really accurate. Do I really need another .308? Don't be silly. That's like asking, do I really need another 1911. Of course I do! And they come left-handed too! What am I supposed to do? God help me, I still want one of these things.
Pray for me.
Pray for me.

TAM, don't feel like the Lone Ranger on this one. I have really really wanted one also, but like you, at this time I just can't justify buying one. It's on the list though. Some day maybe.

What, this?

Ruger says "Beware the man with one gun, for he probably knows how to use it. Never has this been more true than with the Ruger® Gunsite Scout Rifle, the one rifle to have if you could have only one. It is the perfect lightweight, hard-hitting, do-it-all bolt-action rifle."
That's bold!
Oh and obvuiously for TAM: "Left-Handed Model Now Available."

I say we take a lesson from the women folk. When they ask themselves "Can I justify buying [Shoes|Furnature|Clothes|whatever]?" They use the following as Justification: "I want it, so its justified!" Problem solved, now go buy that scout rifle.
How do you explain a dog named Sauer without first telling the story of a Puppy named Sig?

No, LT, it does not. When they were designing the gun, the M1A magazines were the original goal, but they found that they had feeding issues using double stack configuration, so they finally went with the Accuracy International single stack design. The two magazines that come with the gun, a 10 rounder and a 5 rounder, are stamped with the Ruger logo, but Accuracy International magazines purchased from the aftermarket will work just fine. They're a bit pricey, but maybe not more so than high quality magazines for other platforms.longtooth wrote:That looks like it accepts M1A mags. Does it.??/
Not that I've been doing any research or anything.....

Okay, I'll try and talk you out of it.
Um.
Let me see here...
I'm sure I can think of something....
Bolt guns look silly with a big detachable magazine!
Yeah, that's all I've got.
Sorry.

Actually, the one I just posted is right-handed. Whoops! Maybe for someone else. =)

Oh goodness I want one too. That's a sweet rifle. I currently do not own a bolt action. Have had several maybe I can use that for justification LOL. I doubt that will slide with the wife. I could just use the old opps I just had to have it and well.. they don't take returns.

Re: I've got it bad....
I have drooled over the same rifle, lacking the southpaw option. I have also stood at a table with the needed cash in pocket, looking at the M1A. Couldn't justify spending that dough for something I would only shoot as often as I would. I have never even seem the Ruger in person. I still thought, "man, I need this for some reason." Then really thought about it, and realized I was just jumping on a new shiny thing. In my existence, I know there are other things, most not even firearms related, that I would rather grasp and run with. Present and future. Never mind the Garand I bought for other reasons. Those reasons were personal, so let me say, wait, what was I saying... Oh yeah. If you happen to find that rifle for a price that you are willing to pay, you ain't got nothing to explain to any of us. BUY IT, and then ENJOY IT. Then LET ME SHOOT IT. Or not, it's really up to you. Looks nice, but I spend 95% of my time in the city. I can't even be bothered to always have a pistol on me. You, my friend, are you. But you probably knew that.

Re: I've got it bad....
Last Fall, I went to my first ever Dallas Market gun show. I remember five things primarily about that weekend:9mmfan wrote:I have drooled over the same rifle, lacking the southpaw option.
1. It was cold and raining, and I hated the walk from the parking lot to the gun show.
2. I bought a small flashlight which has become my EDC.
3. I bought a TLR-1s weapon light for my bedstand gun.
4. I saw the M1 Carbine which my son was later to buy from his boss to give me for Christmas for the first time. His boss was there to maybe try and sell it if I didn't drool over it when I saw it (he and my son were in cahoots together, and I had no idea).
5. I came with the intention of buying a Kahr CW45, and I had the cash in pocket plus some extra, and the guy I like to deal with had sold all of his. I mentioned a hankering for one of the Scout Rifles to my son but said I was going to wait until a left-handed version was produced. He told me he had seen a left-handed one for sale for $750 at a booth. I thought about it for a minute and said, "nah..... now that I know they make left-handed ones, I'll just get one later."
Now they are like unobtainium unless you want to pay a premium. Ruger announced on 3/21/12 that had stopped accepting new firearm orders until it cleared up a 1,000,000 gun backlog of backorders, and that it expected to resume accepting new orders at the end of may......1 week ago. The best price I've seen recently for a left-handed one is in the $800-$850 range on gunsamerica.com.
