VIENNA -- Austrian police did not need sniffing dogs to locate this suspected heist - 9.5 tons of garlic.

The Austria Press Agency says police stopped three overloaded and sagging vans about to cross into Hungary from Austria on Wednesday and found them packed to the roof with the pungent cargo. After questioning the five men in the vehicles they charged them on suspicion of receiving stolen goods.

PETERBOROUGH — Jackie R. Whiton of Antrim had been a six-year employee at the Big Apple convenience store in Peterborough until a single transaction sent her job up in smoke.

The store clerk was fired after she refused to take a customer’s Electronic Balance Transfer card to pay for cigarettes.
These are state issued cards that are only to be used to buy food items.
Was the customer planning on EATING the cigarettes? :headscratch

PARK HILLS, Mo. – An eastern Missouri man's honesty during a job interview with the state Highway Patrol got him arrested when, according to the interviewer, he acknowledged inappropriately touching a child.

KMOV-TV reports that St. Francois County prosecutors now have charged 26-year-old Christopher Stringham, of Park Hills, with 20 counts of first-degree statutory sodomy. According to court records, Stringham was asked during a job interview with the Highway Patrol last month if he ever committed a sexual crime that he could be convicted of. He allegedly replied that he touched a child several times, implying each time was an accident.

A message left Tuesday with his attorney, James Willis of Farmington, wasn't returned.

A judge lowered Stringham's bond Tuesday from $500,000 to $25,000 and ordered him to wear a monitoring bracelet if released. :confused5 :confused5 :confused5 :headscratch

I invite you all to contribute any such "gems" you come across. May we all feel just a little diminished and more stupid after reading these.

I'll open with this one:

TEANECK — An elderly man was arrested Monday night after a neighbor's fart allegedly drove him to threaten him with a gun, police said.

Daniel Collins, 72, had been involved in an ongoing dispute with the unidentified neighbor for some time, Det. Lt. Andrew McGurr told NJ.com. The neighbor told officers that Collins pointed a revolver at him in the vestibule of their apartment building at 694 Cedar Lane at around 9:25 p.m.

Collins said he confronted the man after hearing him pass gas in front of his apartment door, but denied threatening him with a gun. He consented to a search, and officers recovered a .32 caliber revolver from his vehicle.

Carry on.

Dont believe I would care to stand my ground on this one.... :leaving

http://dailycaller.com/2012/06/14/obama ... ic-growth/
In short, why would he consistently do the exact opposite of what is needed to promote economic growth? While we would normally be experiencing robust growth coming out of a recession, our private sector grew at a rate of 1.2 percent last year — a rate that would have to improve dramatically just to become worthy of the adjective “anemic.” But Obama, through his policies, acts as if he’s achieving this rate of growth on purpose. And through his comments (“the private sector is doing fine”), he acts as if he’s proud of the results.

No, I had never understood President Obama’s economic policies. Until now. At the Netroots Conference in Rhode Island this past weekend, a gathering of President Obama’s most fervent core supporters discussed the concept of economic growth. One such Obama supporter, featured panelist Colin Mulcher, shed light on the subject: “I think currently the goal seems to be, like, the unstated assumption is that the goal is growth, for the sake of growth. It’s like, we have to grow, and grow, and grow, and grow, and grow. Why? I don’t know, we just have to grow. The only thing that I know about [where] the definition is out-of-control growth, is cancer. Like, literally … the definition of out-of-control growth is cancer.

A light went off in my head.
Like totally.

Video: Taliban shoot woman 9 times in public execution as men cheer
By the CNN Wire Staff
updated 5:57 PM EDT, Sun July 8, 2012
Kabul, Afghanistan (CNN) -- A shot rings out, but the burqa-clad woman sitting on the rocky ground does not respond.

The man pointing a rifle at her from a few feet away lets loose another round, but still there is no reaction.

He fires a third shot, and finally the woman slumps backwards.

But the man fires another shot.

And another. And another.

Nine shots in all.

Around him, dozens of men on a hillside cheer: "God is great!"

Officials in Afghanistan, where the amateur video was filmed, believe the woman was executed because two Taliban commanders had a dispute over her, according to the governor of the province where the killing took place.

Both apparently had some kind of relationship with the woman, said Parwan province governor Abdul Basir Salangi.

"In order to save face," they accused her of adultery, Salangi said.
And we are currently negotiating with these savages......
