The one round they didn't fire into that vest (and I wouldn't want them to wear it and try) is the NATO standard M855. As I have read and understand it, it was designed to increase penetration because NATO feared body-armor wearing Soviet shock troops coming through the famous Fulda Gap...and, at the time, that seemed more necessary to defeat than a bunch of thin folks in the Middle East/Central Asia. So, any guesses if M855 would make it through that stuff?

NO, and it's not a guess, or at least with US issued body armor.

I'm curious, where do the deflected bullets go? I would be concerned about one ending up in my foot or chin or....anything without a vest on it. I don't know all that much about that technology, are the bullets slowed so significantly that that is not a concern?

I've seen glancing blows that created a channel in the ESAPI and the bullet or fragments then stuck in the OTC layers, or flesh.
