Stack-On products are not "high end gun safes." They make small lockboxes and sheet metal cabinets that they call gun safes but that can be readily defeated very quickly with common hand tools.

The hackers didn't open true gun safes by Fort Knox, Cannon, etc with a couple of paperclips.

The hackers didn't open true gun safes by Fort Knox, Cannon, etc with a couple of paperclips.

You and I know that but unfortunately there's a lot of junk out there being sold as gun safes, some of it no better than those little tin, one-key-opens-all cash boxes. If this makes people think twice about what they buy then I'm glad for it. Though I'd like to know if they really did open a GunVault as I have one of those.

When I read about the kid jarring it so that it opened, I expected to see him knocking it off of a table, something like that. It took him basically no force to open that...are you certain that the lockboxes in the video haven't been tampered with in any manner to make them easier to open? Also, the kid sure seemed to be quite "knowledgeable" on exactly where to put that straw, or poke into...but was he coached ahead of time? I've got a small Gunvault here next to me. I'm going to empty it, and drop it a foot or so, in the interest of science, to see if it will just pop open. Mine is just like it left the factory, minus putting a new battery in it a couple of times and changing the keypress code.-------Okay, test complete...didn't pop open...also, I took a large rubber mallet and gave it a few whacks...not full strength, but harder than the little kid bumping those in the video...yeah, didn't open.

What I am getting at is that SOMETHING isn't right about those videos. I wish I were a rich man, then I would go locate some of those and see for myself. Unfortunately, I don't have that kind of money. But I'm going to guess that the companies that make them test them at least a little more than a tiny bump to see if they will open. The whole thing just seems GIMMICKY.

The video used the Stack-On vaults not GunVaults. It shows the exact thing mentioned on the original OP article.

Researchers toyed with the Stack-On safe at issue and discovered it could be opened by simply tipping it a bit and then dropping it, with the jar of the impact causing it to unlock.

The event has a history of exposing security flaws and loopholes. Unless someone can show the devices were rigged like some NBC expose, I will save my anger for the manufacturer.

There are thousands of how to open safes/locks videos on YouTube. I had one of those fire safe safes that I lost the key to. I had some valuables inside that I needed. Got to YouTube and found a way to open it without the key. It took me less than a minute to get it open with a paper clip. There are videos on how to open the safes that some hotel rooms have to store your valuables. They all have a master combination that will open them regardless of what combination you set. Scary the things you can find on the Internet. I have no doubt about the claims on the videos I posted for the Stack-On safes. If it was just one person posting it, then maybe. But when you have numerous people making the claims and demonstrating on video, you have to believe it is real.

I was in Vegas for the Shot Show a couple of years ago. The hotel room had a coin-operated safe - you had to put in 50 cents to open the safe, and release the key. Turns out the coin bin fit so loosely into the frame, that it could be dislodged by using some high-tech burglary tools that I call "my fingers". And from there you could release the safe door. Amazingly, there was a couple of dollars in quarters in the bin. I'd like to claim that those quarters won me a million dollars at the slots, but I left them there for the next resident.
