For the first month I carried, no.
Ever since, hell yes!

The main reason to carry with one in the chamber is the amount of time you lose by drawing, racking the slide, orienting yourself on target, and then firing.
I'll issue a standing bet for $100 to anyone who thinks that they can be just as fast engaging a target without one in the chamber.
The rules:
10 yards at a B-27 target.
Similar condition of readiness (both in similar holsters, or low ready position whatever you prefer)
I'll have a round chambered, and you don't.
Whoever hits the target first wins $100.
Somehow I doubt anyone is going to try.
If you won't bet $100 that you can be "fast enough" to chamber a round and engage a threat on a static range, why would you bet your LIFE that you could be fast enough to do so in the real world?
Just some food for thought.

Re: Do you carry in condition 1?
I know several people who carry LCPs in their pocket with no holster & no round in the chamber. Hopefully they never need it.
I carry a glock with one in the chamber, but I did have to work up to it. The "safe action" eased my mind & now i dont even think about it. If i were to buy a 1911, I would probably have to work my way to cocked & locked.

Re: Do you carry in condition 1?
Like others, I had to carry for a month or two with the chamber empty. Then I saw the video of the guy at the gas station and it convinced me I don't have time to rack a slide when the chips are down. Now everything is loaded.

Nope never, wouldn't think of it. way too dangerous. The bad guy will always give me time to chamber a round if I ask politely.
Ok, now that my need for sarcasm has been taken care of. I always carry a round in the pipe, a full mag in the gun pistol, spare mags, a Backup Gun with one in the pipe and a full mag along with a spare mag for it.

How do you explain a dog named Sauer without first telling the story of a Puppy named Sig?

So I guess if Jerry Miculek or Doug Koenig ever visit Temple, they've got an easy $100 coming to them . . .74novaman wrote:I'll issue a standing bet for $100 . . .

But after they took your money, I am sure they would both agree that they'd rather have a round in the chamber.

1) Yeah, they're both hurting for money so I'm sure they're heading down here right now.
2) Just because the outliers at the very extreme top of the bell curve of "gun guys" are capable of doing it doesn't mean its a good idea for the average CHLer.
Sheesh.

Re: Do you carry in condition 1?
Yep. Always with the SIG. Took me one carry to work up to it with the 1911, but that was because I wanted to be sure the holster worked properly (i.e. it didn't snag the thumb safety when holstering).

I am thinking that I would have significant difficulties with doing that with my XD9.bronco78 wrote:You do know that the large hole on the back end of the barrel is designed to store a .45 cal round.. YES?![]()

Oh, well lucky for you, those can be sold at just a small loss so you can get a grown up gun when your ready.3dfxMM wrote:I am thinking that I would have significant difficulties with doing that with my XD9.bronco78 wrote:You do know that the large hole on the back end of the barrel is designed to store a .45 cal round.. Just joking...
I have an XD9 SC in the pile, CZ75's, and a few others.. nothing wrong with that caliber, or most of the guns that are made to chamber it...

Re: Do you carry in condition 1?
When I first started carrying I did not keep one in the chamber. My pocket pistol does not have any safeties other than a Glock like trigger. The trigger also has an 8 pound DA only pull. I finally realized that was safety enough and I now always carry with one in the chamber and cocked.
