You'd rather just stop the BG so that later, when you least expect it, he is back to kill you?
Well, it just depends on the situation. If someone beats my door down and breaks into my home in the middle of the day while my car is parked in the driveway, they're in my home to do more than steal from me.

On the other hand, if it's 3 am and a burglar is trying to steal from me, killing that individual would def. violate my moral code. My property is not worth shedding blood over...and I don't believe in killing anyone who isn't interested in killing me. If someone breaks into my home to steal...legally speaking...I think that I would be better off threatening that individual and making them aware of the fact that me using deadly force depends on their actions.

Let's be honest here... people get serious prison time for breaking and entering. The BG is going away for a long time.
You can read minds?

You are going to take time to determine someone's intentions?

3 am, someone breaking into my house, last thing they see is the flash. No warning.

I am not knocking your moral code. You might want to rethink what you are saying.

There is a high probability that most houses are going to be occupied at night. Any intruder should know this and should not be given the benefit of the doubt as to their motives. I am not taking a chance with the lives of my family nor my own.

GunNewb, I don't mean this question to be condescending at all, it is a serious question: Do you have a spouse and/or children?

@anygunanywhere

There are a ton of ways that a situation like this could play out...

No, I can't read minds. At the same time if someone breaks into my home, the only way that they will find me is if they kick in my locked bedroom door. I'm not a police officer nor a hero... i'm not leaving my perfectly protected room to go find BGs in my house... I will let the police sort that out.

If someone gets past 2 of my protective barriers (front door/window & bedroom door) they will get shot. However, if I come home and find someone in my house holding my TV, putting 6 bullet holes in that individual just doesn't seem right. If he drops the TV and makes any threatening movements... well... thats a different story.

No... but I do understand your position. Children would def. change things.

It definitely does. It's hard to adequately describe but the minute I held my daughter, I knew I would do whatever it took to protect her.

I cannot fault your attitude for not wanting to take a life (I don't either) and wanting to hole up. That very well could be the most prudent thing for you to do in such a situation. Adding a family into the mix changes that dynamic.

Hope you enjoy spending the rest of your life with a guilty conscience tough guy.

There's only one thing that I hate about the CHL community... we have a bunch of "tough guys" who could care less about others who are not related by blood. I guess those BGs that you shoot don't have mothers who love them or family members that will miss them. They're just dirty ol' bad guys who deserve to die...

Since when are all criminals blood thirsty monsters who want to put bullets in you? Get over your tough guy act... you are making a fool out of yourself.

Some people actually live in a real world, have made life or death decisions, and actually understand that there is evil in the world.

All criminals are in fact blood thirsty monsters. I personally do not care about their mothers or their families. If anyone misses them then that is their issue to deal with.

Barstoolguru is not acting a fool or a tough guy. I think your response to him might need a little more thought.

Actions have consequences. Words have meanings. There is right and wrong, evil and good.

Failure to act also has consequences. Allowing someone in your home and waiting on LEO to sort it out is not a wise decision.

Don't misunderstand what I'm saying... Yes, there is a time to shoot without warning... I'm not saying that it's wrong in every situation. If there was ever a question about my safety...pulling the trigger would be an easy decision.

Technically, the law says that I can chase a BG out of my house and shoot him in the back to recover my property, right? Would you really do something like that? If so... I would say that you are the blood thirsty monster and not fit to own and operate a DEFENSIVE weapon.

You are now changing the scenario and without knowing what it is that he took, I cannot answer.

I have no standing on this forum other than as a regular member, but I must caution you as a general form of etiquette, it is frowned upon to join a forum and then start lecturing and name calling.

Nothing that I own is worth taking a life over...

I do apologize for any name calling... but its hard not to be offended by a foolish tea and cookies comment. I mean that was just uncalled for... I believe that my position is legitimate... just like many other people.

I'm going to drop this whole argument because everyone is entitled to their own opinion about how to act in certain situations.

Duly noted but you can't speak for everyone. There is a reason the statutes are written the way they are.
