New gun for future carry. Gunsmith recommendations, please.

Post by Reserve161 »

Hello, everyone!
I purchased a Rock Island Compact 1911 and will eventually carry it for
my edc.

I know I need some gun smith work done:

1. Must put an ambidextrous safety on it.
2. Would like to upgrade the sights.

I live in the North Dallas (Lewisville) area - is there a gun smith that can
be recommended for this? Or, should I call Armscor and send it to them?

Thanks for the recommendations!

Bryan

Those are relatively easier 1911 jobs that a local shop, or even some members on here, could likely do.

Thank you, Gigag04.

Any suggested shops, or are any local members interested? I will of course pay for the work done and the
parts.

And I don't have any set idea of what sights to consider upgrading to.

I have a second Rock Island 1911 that needs a rear sight fitted/drifted into place as well. I have the sight
already for this one.

Armascor does have a fantastic reputation for customer service at decent prices, so if you wanted to get in touch with them about the work you wanted done I'm sure they'd be happy to offer you a price quote at the least.

I had 2 RIA 1911s at one point. Both fantastic guns that never let me down. Best "budget" 1911 out there right now, IMO.

If you take it too a local gunsmith you don't have to deal with the hassles of shipping. I'm sure there must be qualified gunsmiths in the DFW area.

For sites, I put Wilson on mine:
