Re: Rick Perry breaks with NRA?
It seems pretty obvious he's saying the Federal Government shouldn't violate the Second Amendment.

Re: Rick Perry breaks with NRA?
Consider the source. It is typical socialist/communist twisting of the words to mean what they want it to mean, and not what Rick Perry actually said. Perry is lately, as he expressed during the primaries, an advocate of state's rights. I don't think he means so much that states ought to cut back on gun rights as much as he means that the federal gummint should keep out of it. I'll be that if you asked Rick Perry what he thought the correct interpretation of the 2nd Amendment was, he'd likely give you a most favorable answer.
Edited to add: Why WHY WHY do you waste your time with that website? I just stay the heck away from it because it's bad for my blood pressure. Parsing is what they do, because parsing always gets in the way of clarity.

Not to mention the source is "thinkprogress.org". That should give you a hint of their reliability when it comes to honestly reporting on guns or Republican governors.
Edit: TAM beat me to it.

That was a carefully selected "bit" that does not tell the whole story, (as in what was the question), and if you look at the other inflammatory stories on that site, it's definitely a left wing one.

Sorry, I don't know anything about that website. Someone asked me if I'd heard about the topic and I did a search and found it there. Then I did a search here and hadn't seen anyone post anything about it yet. I think that's the only article I've ever read from them before. It was on many other sites. That's just the random one I picked. The Annoyed Man wrote:Consider the source. It is from the Center for American Progress. Think of John Podesta etc.
Re: Rick Perry breaks with NRA?
The comments below the story are actually worse than the story, by and large...one of the commenters thinks that you are a criminal if you own a semi-automatic weapon. Another one believes we shouldn't have firearms (you'll love the logic of this one) because we can't beat the United States Armed Forces with the civilian firearms we have. And I'm sure they weren't the worst, even...I just couldn't bring myself to read more than a small handful...

Re: Rick Perry breaks with NRA?
This is what Perry is quoted as saying on that site:
And this is how the writer interpreted his statement:PERRY: When it gets back to this issue of taking guns away from law abiding citizens and somehow know this will make our country safer, I don’t agree with that. I think most people in Texas don’t agree with that, and that is a state by state issue frankly that should be decided in the states and not again a rush to Washington, D.C. to centralize the decision making, and them to decide what is in the best interest for the citizens and the people of Florida and Texas. That’s for the people of these states to decide.
I'd write something, but it would be a violation of the rules. I'll just let you write it in your head.Perry’s position, that each state should get to decide whether to “tak[e] guns away” from its citizens places him well to the left of the Supreme Court and the nation’s largest gun lobby.
The Constitution preserves the advantage of being armed which Americans possess over the people of almost every other nation where the governments are afraid to trust the people with arms. James Madison

Re: Rick Perry breaks with NRA?
thus the reason I rarely follow links posted to "news stories". I can't believe the number of folks that actually post links to sites like "huff and puff" and expect anyone with a thimble full of common sense to actually consider the story to be credible.
But, I'm getting old and chrotchity.... and hope to get really old and chrochitier (that is a word... right?)

It's not gun control that we need, it's soul control!
