I did not think BO could get much lower in my eyes, but he keeps proving me wrong. Signed by an auto-pen no less. :mad5

Is this a departure from the actions of past presidents?

Actually no. Richard Nixon did the same thing in the Seventies.

I know, because a fellow SSgt I knew in the USMC got one that was sent to his wife in error while in was in Viet Nam. He kept it under plastic on his desk.

I'm no handwriting expert, but those signatures certainly don't look the same to me. I guess they still could be automatically-generated; I really don't know that much about it. I'm no particular Obama fan, but I just don't see much of a story here. Is it because they were SEALs, in particular, and people think they deserve more recognition than other service members?

I have several problems with this. It was the single deadliest loss in Afghanistan which bumps up its importance in the overall scheme of things. Obama is using the SEAL operation to claim he killed Osama Bin Laden. If he wants to claim their victories, share in their loss with at least a personalized letter signed by hand. This shows that he cares only enough to have a secretary do some work. Obama had no problem showing off Cindy Sheehan as a grieving mother who lost her son in war, using her grief for his political gain saying how he sympathized with her loss and the loss of all families who had a son or daughter killed in action. But when the rubber hits the road, he showed a total lack of compassion – probably had a golf tee time he could not afford to miss.

I saw that on the Drudge Report with the intro of "SHOCK CLAIM:..," but the sad thing was it wasn't that surprising or shocking - almost what I would expect from the man.

I expect no more from this man (and I had to choke the word man out). He is a disgrace to our country.

So please explain. If this is normal practice going back over 40 years, and the nation has lost a lot of blood during those 40 plus years, what's the real issue NOW?

Obie spends Monday through Friday fundraising and golfing, weekends are for the family and fundraising, how could he possibly have enough time to actually write personal letters as President Bush did? Although I am sure he can come up with somebody else to blame for his lack of compassion for our troops.........

Excerpt from the NY Times
http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/200 ... /?page=all
"Mr. Bush, for instance, has sent personal letters to the families of every one of the more than 4,000 troops who have died in the two wars, an enormous personal effort that consumed hours of his time and escaped public notice. The task, along with meeting family members of troops killed in action, has been so wrenching - balancing the anger, grief and pride of families coping with the loss symbolized by a flag-draped coffin - that the president often leaned on his wife, Laura, for emotional support.

“I lean on the Almighty and Laura,” Mr. Bush said in the interview. “She has been very reassuring, very calming.”

Mr. Bush also has met privately with more than 500 families of troops killed in action and with more than 950 wounded veterans, according to White House spokesman Carlton Carroll. Many of those meetings were outside the presence of the news media at the White House or at private sessions during official travel stops, officials said."

I have to agree.

I don't like Obama but in my feeble-little-mind this is just a distraction from the real issues.

It isn't "normal practice going back over 40 years".

First look at more recent history. Bush didn't do it.

Second, circumstances were different 40 years ago. Over 56,000 people were killed in Vietnam. I don't think anyone expected Johnson or Nixon to write a personal letter to every family. What's BO have to deal with? A thousand?

Hey! Cut him a little slack, okay? He's busy pandering to, and trying to buy, votes from live people.

You're quite right. He has been working so hard lately. I think he needs a nice, long, permanent vacation.
