How is your local gs ammo stock level?

Post by 77346 »

Have people began to stock up on ammo?

My local Academy was running low on 9mm... in fact, they were out of Hornady Critical Duty, which they normally stock. Went to my local gun shop and they were out of it too... got the last box of Critical Defense. I can't find Hornady 380 Critical Defense locally either. I'm in Atascocita (NE Harris Co.; Houston), so I may have to drive to Spring (Carter's) to see if they have any or order online.

Are you experiencing or seen the same where you shop?

Yep. Same here.... I have had a hard time finding what I need. I'm glad I stopped by GTDist when I was in Dallas last weekend. I stocked up on all the duty ammo, we reload range stuff.

I buy all my ammunition online now after the last round of shortages.

Was at academy couple days ago and looked fully stocked. I reload yet alway browse the ammo anyway. Know a few weeks ago they didn't have the 22 ammo I buy but since had several bricks wasn't a real issue.

I go by Academy (SAT) and Cabelas (Buda) weekly and both look good. Plenty of ammo, both range and PD.

I've been looking for some 5.56 and haven't been able to find much of it lately...

After looking locally I went online to see about Ammotogo.com and ordered 1000 rds but when I got to check out they said they only had 300 in stock  ... Okay, huh... So I then went to the online store I used to get ALL my ammo from locally when I lived in WA State, surplusammoandarms.com (theyre right down the road from Ft. Lewis) again, not much to be had and what they did have was PRICEY...

So, then I went to Cheaper than Dirt online and they still have the Lake City I was looking for... 1000 loose rds for $499 gotta see if a buddy wants to 1/2 it ...

As far as pistol ammo... My local Wal Mart has been pretty full the last few weeks and I have been picking up what I can when I can. ;-)

I buy my practice rounds online from Freedom Munitions, but I buy the self-defense rounds locally, since I only fire a few rounds of these every couple of months or so (I like to cycle the rounds on my carry and home defense guns once a quarter).

Midland USA had both the 9mm and 380 that I was looking for, so ordering a few boxes from them... :fire

I can understand how supply and demand and raw material costs affect ammo prices. What gets me is that I can find the exact same ammo within 15 miles of my house for $4 difference on a box of 50 (like 9, 40, 45). What gives. I'm glad I can find bargains but its just weird.

I get most of my handgun ammo at Wally World. I've got a bunch of WWB for generally between .36-.40/round, but have lately been getting Federal for about .30/round. I haven't shot any of the Federal stuff yet, but it is getting hard to find and there is usually several boxes of WWB on the shelves.

I only have around 500-600 rounds of .223. Most of that came from Ammunition to Go the last time I was in Brenham. The rest has come from various WalMarts. Still trying out different brands and grains. I don't really buy much .223 at WalMart because they are crazy high $$ per round and don't really carry much range ammo in this caliber. They have mostly just JHP stuff.

Yup. Found them just a couple of weeks before my last trip to Brenham and stopped by to get my first 400 rounds of .223.
