Yeah I read it. Was disappointed that a couple of my favorite loads didn't measure up to their standard. Was surprised at a couple others that did.

I love my 1911 .45's. But the king of the hill is still the .357mag!

I love how he only did one for the 10mm. Of course there is nothing really new from this info that we don't already know. I would just like to say that all those who doubt the .32 H&R properly loaded and the .327 mag are seriously under estimating those cartridges in the penetration department. Great rounds!

Re: American Rifleman Article About Stopping Power
I wish Speer would load the gold dot 100 grain for the .32 H&R. Talk about good penetration, expansion and little recoil. Oh well.
Re: American Rifleman Article About Stopping Power
I went back and read it again based on your 10mm statement. Their 10mm performance doesn't make sense. It's penetration has to be a misprint. The 40 with the same bullet did better with a much lower muzzle velocity!CC Italian wrote:I love how he only did one for the 10mm.

I found some useful information in the article. I will scan and save the data for future reference.

The above was the writers last statement which is hardly a new or groundbreaking observation. After reading I failed to see that anything new came out of the article.Richard Mann, Field Editor wrote:This makes choosing the handgun/bullet combination simple—you want the combination that penetrates to a sufficient depth and damages the most tissue in the process.
Shot placement is still king, and the best gun in the world is the one that's loaded and within reach when you need it.

This is why, even though I love me some .45 ACP, I do not feel particularly underarmed with a 5 shot snubbie stoked with .357 magnum Critical Defense ammo.AEA wrote:I love my 1911 .45's. But the king of the hill is still the .357mag!

The highlighted portion is what I thought was "new". All of the articles that I have read in the past talk about caliber, kinetic energy, penetration, wound path, blood loss, tissue damgage, etc. I don't recall any of them talking about physical pain.philbo wrote:After reading I failed to see that anything new came out of the article.

"Regardless of how determined someone is to doing harm to someone else, if the aggressor is hurt badly enough he or she will stop. So, the logical approach to handgun stopping power would seem to be to use the combination capable of causing the most pain."

Yep, I feel warm and fuzzy with my SP101 3" with 125gr Golden Sabers for short trips out and about in the rural areas. The Annoyed Man wrote:This is why, even though I love me some .45 ACP, I do not feel particularly underarmed with a 5 shot snubbie stoked with .357 magnum Critical Defense ammo.AEA wrote:I love my 1911 .45's. I agree, I have a 9mm, .45 1911, and a 340pd I carry(mostly the 340pd), and I feel safe with all.philbo wrote:The above was the writers last statement which is hardly a new or groundbreaking observation. Anytime talk of how big-n-bad XX caliber is, I always feel the need to repost these two articles
Bad guy hit 22 times (17 center mass) with .40-cal from a 4.5-inch barrel Glock 22 before he went down

Bad guy hit 9 times (6 in the torso and 2 that literally severed his right foot) with .45-cal Speer Gold Dots from a 4.5-inch barrel Glock 21 before he went down

Ain't no "man stopper" handgun rounds.
