What about the 5 years in the military he was obligated to serve?

People who leave West Point (or any of the service academies) were always obligated to serve their time commitment as enlisted personnel. Unless this is another of the ordinary duties in life that have succumbed to liberal political correctness.

After separtion from the the USMA, it appears that the requirement to serve out only applies to persons who have finished the first two years.

Oh, that's right. When you said it, I was reminded of someone I knew in the 70's faced with the decision after two years whether to start with the 3rd year.

I can't find anything on their website, but based on the two year USMA policy, I would not that civilians would have any obligation.
