v-rog, I have to ask.....why did you decide to sell the Leupold in the first place? I ask because it was one of three scopes I looked at before buying my Burris 536. But in comparing the Burris 1-4 TAC30 to the Leupold VX-R, they seemed to be very similar except for the price penalty for the Leupold name.

Cabela's was offering the TAC30 with the P.E.P.R. mount AND a Fastfire holgraphic CQB sight mounted on it for $499, while the Leupold was $535 (IIRC) for just the scope. There was no appreciable difference in the quality of the optics that I could detect inside the store, and conceptually they were nearly identitical.

I had looked at the Trijicon TR24G, but it was WELL outside the price range I was willing to pay, plus I really wanted the 5X power of the 536, on top of which I mounted a Fastfire sight I purchased from another forum member. One of the things I liked about the 536 besides the magnification was that the price included the mount at $399, the reticle has a very useful bullet drop compensator which is calibrated for 62 grain bullets, and the reticle illuminates in both red and green, but still remains in black if your batteries run down.

I am sold on the Trijicon concept. I recently had an opportunity to mount someone else's ACOG on my AR carbine, and if money were no object I would have bought one without quibbling. But, they are expensive products. So was it just having access to the day/night illuminated reticle, or did something else drive the purchase?

Chris, I loved my VX-R Patrol but I felt that the 3-9x40 was a bit much for the loads I shoot which are 55 grain loads (M4 carbine). Most of my shooting takes place within 50-100 yds and on occasion I can shoot out to 350 yards. SWFA had a slightly used TA24G and it was marked down to $600 (traded my scope and some $$). I also wanted a true 1X with zoom magnification. I'd eventually like to get into 3-gun competition and go hunting with it. Last, the big plus is no batteries. I've tested the scope in pitch dark, outside- sunny, cloudy, and from a poorly lit room looking outside; the scope does great.

I forgot you had the 3-9X and assumed it was a 1-4X. How much did they ding you for the Trijicon? From memory, it seemed like Cabelas was asking for something like $950 for one.
