HD rds for my Kash-12

Post by Beiruty »

I was not sure what to load a mag for HD use on My Kash-12. From range visit, number 6 and number 4 would spray too much and open up more than human size target at even 7-14 yrds.

What I loaded the grab mag is the Federal 2.75" slugs followed by 2.75" Centeriun 1-.660" ball plus 6-#1 buck balls.

Good move? Not sure, for HD I would still grab my AK.

My HD shotgun is a simple Remington 870 with the 18 inch law enforcement barrel. That barrel has no choke. For across the room distances, though, the pattern shouldn't spread very large at all...I use Sellier and Bellot 9 pellet 00 buckshot. IF I were to have to shoot further away with a shotgun, then I would go with the slugs. Shotgun slugs WILL rip though some stuff...not that 00 buck pellets aren't going through drywall, they will...but they will have a LOT less energy left once they make it through than a slug.

This is the pattern from #4 and #6 ( target rd for competition and zerioing Eotech) at around 10-12 yrds. I will be trying 00 Buck and slugs soon.

Okay, Beiruty, I noticed your picture posting said 10-12 YARDS...how many FEET is that? About 30 to 36 feet...how many feet is it across the AVERAGE room in your home? THAT is the distance at which you want to see how the pattern looks...I think you will be surprised at how tight it will be and that SHOULD hold true for all loads to some degree (though its best to test each potential load in the specific gun it will be used in, some loads just act "funny" in some guns, while working fine in others). Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

Average room should be 15 ft. From my front door to the main-living room/stairs there is some 25 ft. One thing for sure, BG would hate to get bird-shot in the face or slug-drilled in his center mass. :leaving

My guess would be a Saiga 12 in a Kushnapup stock.

All shotguns are a rule unto themselves. Patterning or zeroing with birdshot only tells you what the gun does with that load of birdshot. Test your gun with the load you are going to be using at a realistic distance. Not all chokes shoot the same with all loads so you have to do the same thing witha shotgun you do with a rifle or pistol and find what works best in that gun. Oh, birdshot is for shooting birds not people.

I thought about doing that to one. Do you like it? Lots of gas by the face? Does it use a factory located trigger or the pistol grip trigger location?

Factory-trigger only, it does not work but on standard Saiga.
