Wifey Making Progress

Post by doc540 »

This afternoon she practiced shooting one-handed from close to her purse with her Kahr CW9.

Notice she was careful not to hold the gun too close to her left forearm.

Next session she's going to actually shoot from inside an old purse just to know what that experience is like.

CW9 w/CT laser (she trains with the sights, but the laser does help show any trigger jerk or movement)

Two vids

One-handed, raise and shoot (she wanted to try headshots after getting bored with CM)
Good trigger discipline and keeping the muzzle at an angle above her feet. She's handling the recoil and muzzle blast just fine now.

Gotta love the ponytail shake.

One-hand, close to body (we're not yet to the stage of drawing from her Galco purse and shooting, won't be too long though)

Who needs a gun light when you have rapid muzzle flash? :cheers2:

I don't know this, but I'm just guessing that since she's a righty, she may want to switch her purse to the right side for quicker access by her right hand. Plus, if she's going to shoot from inside the purse it might make that easier. Also, since she's shooting a semiauto, be sure to be aware of what's behind that slide when shooting from inside the purse. Be it her arm or anything else. I don't know how it could be an arm, but stranger things have happened when shooting from non-standard positions.

Pony tail shake was funny. What was that all about? :thumbs2:

What she is doing looks good, but can I make a suggestion. She would really enjoy taking a PP inside & outside the home courses. Part of those courses teach drawing from a purse. It is a little different--You do wear the purse on your support side-and as you draw, you move the purse out of the way(you don't shoot holding the purse close to you)--It works as a "double draw" technique--pull gun with strong hand-pull gun(holster) away with support hand. It takes some coordination. Once you have the purse out of the way, you bring the gun up to a 2 handed grip, but you have it oriented so that you are cabale of shooting from any point after the draw. Shooting from inside the purse is not the recommended proceedure!! (would you shoot with your gun still in your holster?)

If you are in the north Texas area I would be happy to work with her--if not, find an instructor for Personal protection inside the home & personal protection outside the home courses.

:iagree: Just Me is right. There's the right way to use a holster purse and all the other ways. Firing a semi auto from a pocket or purse is a one shot proposition that only works at near contact distances. Ya'll both could benefit from a PPITH and PPOTH course talk to me or Richard W. about one.

thanks for the info and offer

fwiw: it's a Galco purse with an interior holster

When it's her decision to take courses, trust me, there will be no stopping her.

Until then, I'm just counting my blessings that she's both carrying and has visited the range twice in three weeks. :cheers2:

First steps are, uh, just first steps. :thumbs2:

re: shooting from inside a purse or holster
If the situation demanded it and at contact range, absolutely I would.
It would have to be a last resort tactic.

And learning to point shoot with one hand at close range is a valuable skill.
