It's easy to find articles that talk about Kimber's decline in reliability over the past yrs. No gun manufacturer is perfect but if I'm gonna spend that much it better have a better rep than what Kimber has right now. I'm sure you'll have plenty of people that say they've shot hundreds of rounds with out an issue

I think most of this is simply that those who have a fully functional Kimber, (or anything else for that matter), are not prone to leaving messages about it. They are enjoying their purchase.

Those with an axe to grind will always be the ones yelling the loudest.

All manufacturers, of every type, have produced products that were not entirely operational. What matters is how the correct this issue for the consumer.

I am a proud Kimber owner, thrice over, and have no issues with operation or quality.

As I stated above, when you get a good one it is real good but when you get a bad one, it is real bad. I had 2 tried the wilson magizines in them also, sent them both back to Kimber a couple of times but always would FTF or FTE after only a few rounds. This was after 200 + painful round break in. The final word from Kimber on both was that I must be limp wristing. That was the end of both for me. I have been shooting 1911's for a lot of years and never had a problem "limp wristing".

I am not opposed to trying another as I really like the looks. But with my luck, I would hate to spend the money and get another dud. So I will stick to my Colts, SA's and Les Baers.

I have Wilson Combat mags for my Kimbers but I also have aftermarket 10 rounders for my Springer GI. Not because of malfunctions but yes, the stock mags are not as good, in both cases. The SPringfield mags aer the same as the KImbers.

No axe to grind. I want my firearms dependable so that means no 1911s for me. With all the LEO contracts they are loosing I'm just letting the OP know

I bought a 4 inch barrel custom shop Kimber earlier this year. Tons of problems. They told me to go from 500 rounds break in period to 800 rounds and the pistol should be fine. Not sure how more rounds down the tube will fix a plunger tube that they forget to stake (among other issues). At 600 rounds, I got tired of wasting my time and money. I sent the thing back to Kimber. They offered me three choices, repair the one I had, replace it with a new one, or refund my money. I took my money back (they would not refund my FFL fee but I was glad to get the purchase price back). I now have a SA TRP 1911 and have been extremely pleased with that. Very accurate and very reliable.

My Kimber experience has been excellent. I have the Crimson Carry and it has always shot great. No reliability issues whatsoever. I would not hesitate to purchase another, but I prefer Colts for purely nostalgic reasons and tend to gravitate to Colt 1911s. I must say, I have been eyeing the Solo myself and may make that purchase.

Ford, Chevy, Dodge, Toyota... They all have lemons but there are laws protecting the consumer. I've read and heard so many good things about Kimber. Maybe I'll rethink it but I do know I want a 1911 even though I hated the ones we carried in the Corps I still feel the need to have a good one.

Honestly for the money I would spend it elsewhere. I have a SA EMP .40. I love the way the gun works but the looks are wearing off, literally. I have sent it back to SA once and they re coated all the parts and installed new grip screws. I carry it everyday and still love the way it feels and the way it shoots. Easy like clicking the mouse. I have to say on the wearing off of the coating they call it armory cote, I am currently in New Orleans due to my wifes military duties and the humidity here makes Houston look like a desert! I am sure that's a big part of the issue.

So in short here is what I am saying do you really want to spend the money on something you carry everyday knowing that it won't remain pretty and new forever that it may get scratched dropped or even worse potentially? Personally I find myself carrying my Sig P238 alot. It really is a nice pocket gun. It has been a tough little gun I am just shy of 800 rounds thru it and it is starting to show it's age. Still shoots true and never a fte ftf thru it's life. It has scratches and wear marks etc. I even acidentally dropped it on the pavement that sucked but that's life.

Well, I've been carrying my Tactical Ultra II for about 15 years now.

I have no plans to retire it anytime soon.

I do have to say that since I now ONLY use Lawman 230 grain, no issues.

But, I am still leary.
