Irving Gun Show
Went down to the Irving Gun Show today. While that normally is not the busiest show around, it was dead today. Not that many people walking around and there were empty tables in several of the rows. In particular, there were not very many private sales tables. Is the ATF having an effect or is it just the weekend before Thanksgiving.
Re: Irving Gun Show
Not many private sales tables? Maybe peeps are keeping what they've got for some reason?
Empty tables in several rows? Maybe sellers that normally would have been there are already sold out of their inventory?
ATF having an effect? In what way are you suggesting? Seeing if private parties are charging sales tax? Peeps buying multiple guns from private sellers and filling up a pickup?
Thanksgiving coming up MAY have something to do with it, but in all the times I have been to that show (when I was going to shows) it was always fairly sparse in attendance and available inventory.

The time of year might be playing a part too. People are hanging on to their $$$ for the upcoming holidays.

Re: Irving Gun Show
I went yesterday and it was the second time I went to it. both times it was dead with little selection. I was kind of disappointed as i really wanted to pick up a .40 but the pistol selection was so slim.

Re: Irving Gun Show
Irving is always slower than most shows but even at that I thought yesterday was worse than normal.
I have been hearing that the ATF was cracking down on private sellers both online and at gun shows. I heard they were particularly going after sellers who are not keeping guns long. I thought that might be have contributed to the slow day in Irving. But maybe not.

Re: Irving Gun Show
BTW I thought AR prices looked about normal. AK prices were high.
Re: Irving Gun Show
I didn't know Irving had a show going on today. I stopped by the Mesquite show today at about 1000. The front parking lot was only about half full. The last one there, the front lot was full and the field across the street had at least a hundred vehicles in it. I was looking for some extra mags for my G21 and 30-round PMAGs for the M4. All the G21 mags were $25, so I passed on those. The PMAGS were $14-$15, but one guy sold me ten for $13 each. No one else would deal and some sold out of their PMAGs on Saturday.

Why would the ATF be interested in whether or not sales tax is collected?AEA wrote:Not many private sales tables? Maybe peeps are keeping what they've got for some reason?

Re: Irving Gun Show
The mesquite show going on at the same time is probably part of the reason, and last one I went to there was also adequate show at the same time.
I did pick up some pmags for $40 for 3, they were actually cheaper if u bought more.

Re: Irving Gun Show
Irving is not one of the better gun shows. I wish it were because I live not too far from the center. However, Due to the time of year as well as the fact that the Dallas show is next weekend, it was probably smaller than most.

Good Catch........

I prolly was not thinking correctly when I typed that as I know that ATF is not the agency that enforces Sales Tax Laws.
Us old guys get things mixed up from time to time.......

It was just my thought that ATF is not the only Agency roaming around at gun shows.

Re: Irving Gun Show
Just because ATF isn't the agency that enforces the sales code doesn't mean that they can't inform the agency that does enforce the sales code. Again maybe none of this is happening but just rumors I heard.
Re: Irving Gun Show
Could be. The guy I got my PMAGs from seemed overly concerned with sales tax. In the past, when paying with cash they seemed unconcerned. For example, several months ago I bought ten of them at the Lewisville show for $12 each and just gave the man $120. The guy at the Mesquite show did give them to me for $13 each, but also charged me sales tax.stroo wrote:Just because ATF isn't the agency that enforces the sales code doesn't mean that they can't inform the agency that does enforce the sales code. Could there be a difference between vendors that have a tax stamp and some that do not?

Re: Irving Gun Show
The comptroller may be watching a little closer than normal when it comes to sales tax. The state is grabbing for money from wherever they can get it because of lost federal funding. This economy has put the hurt on the state at all levels and with this "fiscal cliff" looming in the background it's only going to get worse. Read more about it here.
