Anybody carry Federal HST?
Well I have run through the last of my carry ammo for my 9mms(Black Hills EXP 115 xtp). Good round but I wanted to look for a round that expanded a little better. So it was time to get some new stuff that performs well but doesn't cost 20 bucks for a box of 20.
Got some of these bad boys after reading reviews. http://le.atk.com/ammunition/federal/ha ... spx?id=579 I was surprised how they expanded! .88 in 9mm from a standard pressure load. WOW! That is better then the vaunted Gold dot in the same 124 grain. I tried the 147 +P HST last year but the OAL seemed to cause problems with feeding which disappointed me. So I thought I would give it another stab and try the standard pressure 124 HST. For $25 for a box of 50 I am willing to try. I bought 200 rounds for function test and carry.
Any experiences with this load. Seems pretty good on paper at least 11-12 inches of penetration and .60-.88 expansion depending on the media.

I carry it in .45 ACP and use it as reload ammo for my .40 I carry DPX in the gun and 155 gr HST as a reload. It's an improved version of the Federal Classic and performs well across all calibers unlike Hydra Shock that was a little disappointing in 9mm.

Re: Anybody carry Federal HST?
I bought some from a forum member a year ago. I went to shoot my Kahr PM9 tonight. I put 200 rounds of WWB through it. It was new and need broke in some. No malfunctions at all.
I took out the HST and loaded my four magazines and . . . .
Shooting at an indoor range. I have never seen muzzle flash like that before. I shot all 24 rounds with no malfunctions. I had been carrying Hornady Critical Duty, but the HST is some powerful ammo.

The hollow point bullets have come a long way in the last 10 years or so. I am hoping this load works out. My wife doesn't like +P loads. Go figure.
I hope this one won't be to much for her either. LOL. Now that I carry 10mm and .40 all the time 9mm recoil seems easy but I got to keep the wife happy with her single stack. Happy wife happy life.

Re: Anybody carry Federal HST?
What HST grain was it Carlson? Was it +P. The standard pressure lists at 1150 from a 4inch. Her gun is a 25 oz 3rd gen single stack 908s smith. So with standard pressure it is pretty tame.
Re: Anybody carry Federal HST?
They were Federal 124gr Hydra-Shok +P+
I didn't realize that. I probably should not have put that through a Kahr PM9. I don't know what the specifications are for the Kahr. I know I will not be shooting them on a regular basis.

Re: Anybody carry Federal HST?
I bet that rocked out of a little PM9.
I have only shot Winchester ranger Ts 127 +P+ once out of my p95. I would not want to shoot it through a gun with a 3inch barrel and half the weight.

It's one of my fav types and never prob running them through a G19. Ammo To Go sometimes have really good deals on them.
Re: Anybody carry Federal HST?
I recently noticed this alert on the website for Four Seasons Guns. http://www.fsguns.com/fsg_ammo.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
In case it's true, better buy whatever you can find.Federal HST is no longer available to sporting goods stores. They are now marketed to law enforcement only. We don't know why Federal made this decision. If your department is looking for some HST please contact a law enforcement distributor.

Re: Anybody carry Federal HST?
Carl, there is a difference between the Hydra-Shok and the HST. The Hydra-Shok came out first and was touted as the next best thing.......it was a good round. I carried it for a long time.carlson1 wrote:They were Federal 124gr Hydra-Shok +P+

The HST is the evolution (latest development) (couple of years old now) and expands better than the Hydra-Shok did. The HST also is supposed to penetrate clothing without getting clogged up and still expands. I haven't tried that part yet.....

The +P+ versions of Hydra-Shok or HST can work another way too........if you are close enough you will light the perp on fire!

Thanks Alan you happen to be the " other forum member."
I will be looking for more, but maybe not +P+. Maybe just +P.
As far as not selling it to us humans that what they said about the Rangers and then package it so. I beg we can find it.

Scroll down.......
They have it in .45acp too:

Scroll down.......
Sorry, I have not seen it in .357. Have to stay with the Golden Sabers or Gold Dots in that Caliber.

Re: Anybody carry Federal HST?
Is there anyone in the DFW area that would like to go in with me and buy 1000 rd case - 9mm +P Federal HST 124gr HP hollow point LE ammo P9HST3 for $479.50. We will split cost and get 500 rounds each?
Re: Anybody carry Federal HST?
It's 489.50 at SGammo for 1000. You get the 479.50ea price if you buy 2.
http://www.sgammo.com/product/federal/1 ... mmo-p9hst3" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
If you can't find someone to split 1000 with ya, here it is in 500:
http://www.ammunitiontogo.com/product_i ... llow-point" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
That's a little higher in price (+10 cents per round) (.49 at SGammo and .59 here) and they are in Texas, so you also gotta pay the tax & shipping. But just another option for ya.
You could also call SGammo and ask for a price on 500. You would save the tax that way too as they are in OK.
I don't think you need 500 rounds of SD ammo. Why not split a 500 with someone and you should have all the SD ammo you need for quite awhile.........unless you are going to bad parts of town quite often!
And, if the world really does come to an end within the next 4 years........we won't need no stinking HP ammo......FMJ will do just fine!
