I had no idea he had even been ill. I have to say, not to make light of his passing, but when I was describing to my wife the manner of his death while he was a passenger in the vehicle she was driving between Missoula and Butte, I thought "not a bad way to go." He died with his wife of nearly 50 years at his side, on a 120 mile long stretch of highway in some of the most beautiful country in the entire nation. He wasn't cooped up in a hospital bed, full of tubes and surrounded by machinery in a sterile environment. And apparently right up until he got sick, he lived doing what he loved, and his lifelong mate did it alongside him. How many of us are that blessed in life? 70 is the new 60 these days, so he wasn't all that old yet by modern standards—but he lived longer than many of the men who lived in the older era which his life celebrated, and he lived more in his 70 years than many of us will have lived by aged 80 or 90....if we are so blessed as to live that long.

I would say that his was an example of the life well-lived, and there is much to celebrate for his family and friends, and for his fans throughout the shooting world.
“Hard times create strong men. Strong men create good times. Good times create weak men. And, weak men create hard times.”

Wow i had no clue this guy was ill more less died. He is one of the guys that got me wanting to shoot regular. In my mind he is a shooting legend. The gun world seems empty now without him. RIp.

Like TAM said I had no ideal he had been sick either. He was master with a revolver. He could make a revolver look like a full auto.

Not only was he a great sportsman, but a man of character. :txflag:
