Help with first Semi Auto

This forum has helped me immensely with my handguns so why not ask a long gun question. I want to buy my first non bolt action rifle. I want semi auto, fun to shoot, easy to maintain. I would love suggestions from the group. Thanks in advance.

AR-15 is fun, a bit dirty to maintain unless piston driven (original direct-impingment design poops where it eats), can be bolt-rifle level of accuracy

AK-47 fun and even third-world child soldiers can maintain it with ease, can be minute of bad guy accuracy

Mini 14 or Mini 30 fun and easy, American made, minute of critter accuracy

My first is a Colt AR15, looks something like this

not really expensive, $900 to $1100, stripped down, easy to shoot, easy to clean, and more accurate than I am. ( that might not be saying much, though}

Ive read that AK variations can be had cheaper, and are more rugged. Idk, I would like to shoot one be fore I put it at the top of my list.
Some of the actual riflemen on the forum will probably be along soon to give you more thoughts than I can put together.
