I think I may have shot the perfect pistol

Post by pbwalker »

(to me at least)

Went out hunting this weekend, and as customary, we all bring out some toys and have a good 'ol time amongst good friends, BBQ, and gun powder.

My buddy brought a new pistol he picked up only on recommendation and it wound up being incredible.

Sig P226

I sent a few mags downrange and it was like a was pulling a "Robin Hood". I had to actually stop, walk down, and see for myself that my first 6 rounds had gone through the same hole...all could be covered by a quarter and show no sign of being shot.

I can't speak highly enough about this pistol. It was the first time I had shot the 226 and I'm sold. Now I just need to find one.

Ok...found one. Now, I need some recommendations for an OWB holster. This will not be my EDC, but more of the proverbial "BBQ" gun.

Huh? You're thinking that your "perfect" gun's not the one you want to be carrying if/when you really, really need a real good gun one day??? :headscratch

A P226 was my EDC for over a year. Great gun, but it was a bit uncomfortable in the IWB from time to time if I was intent on not having the grip stick out even a little bit when bending down at the grocery store. (Eventually I realized nobody was noticing or caring, so now I just don't worry about it that much.)

I don't follow... :headscratch

I have more pistols than I know what to do with...I have about 5 that fall under the scope of "EDC". It doesn't literally mean I will carry one and only one weapon. No one weapon is a true EDC.

Heck, my Glock is a perfect gun for me. But it's a Toyota whereas this P226 Lone Star Edition is more of a weekend cruising Caddy.

I must be misunderstanding...

I have Comp-Tac holsters for my pistols. They aren't expensive, and the service has been superb. Try finding a black, left-handed IWB kydex holster for a P7M8 on the rack somewhere! I have never had to wait much more than shipping time for the ones I've purchased.

Congrats on the 226. I have had a 226 Navy for some years and like it a great deal. I figured if it was good enough for SEALs and SAS, it would be good enough for me.

The 226 is pretty hugeiferous for an IWB, although I DO carry one IWB with a nice Versacarry (http://www.versacarry.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;).

For OWB, it depends on what you want. If you need level 2 retention, I have a right-hand Bianchi Model 84 for a SIG 226 (black) for $48.95 (http://www.milestactical.com/bianchi-holster-84.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;).

And, yes, a SIG 226 is an awesome pistol. My standard hip buddy is a P226 Elite Dark (http://sigsauer.com/CatalogProductDetai ... -dark.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;)
I don't fear guns; I fear voters and politicians that fear guns.

That, or I've been misunderstanding the term "EDC". I've got few guns, but my Walther PPS is my EDC. I wouldn't carry the .22s for self-protection, nor would I carry my XD(M)5.25" barrel (though I do have an IWB that I could carry it in) that's primarily a target/game gun.
