How did previous AWB and magazine restrictions apply to law enforcement? I know cops could still have "high-cap" mags in their duty weapons, but did these have to be supplied by their departments or could any LEO just buy them? And could they only be purchased/used for duty weapons, or also for personal weapons/ off duty?
I'm wondering how a new ban would affect LEOSA, which did not take effect until AWB expired.
I think NRA has made a good tactical political move calling for more police to guard schools, but binging up these questions could also help bring more LEOs to the anti-AWB cause.

Remember, in the previous AWB, weapons already manufactured, and magazines already manufactured were NOT prohibited from being sold. The manufacturers were prohibited from selling new items to the public.
We still had mini 14's with bayonet lugs, flash suppressors and folding stocks and we could sell them to each other, but any new firearms were manufactured to the restrictions.
I think I have a couple of magazines I purchased in 2005 after the ban expired that are stamped LEO use only..

There was always a supply of magazines and weapons available out there to anybody. Not sure now since everybody is sold out. I too have many LE mags. I know my prior issued Glock and Colt had LE mags. There have been suppliers selling LE marked mags past 10 years so that is a mute point now. Agencies could buy stuff though. We could carry hi cap mags on/off duty, just like any civilian.
In CA where I came from as LE first, they already banned all this stuff a long time ago. You could keep your AW, but had to register it again with the state for $25 (SB23). I guess now the rest of the nation, including us in Texas will follow suit. I always said it was coming, nobody believed me. I predict something will be in place by end of Jan so they can get on with the anti gun bandwagon. I also believe this one will be a lot stricter. I hope I am wrong.
