I used to work with a buddy who was a veterinarian. His cauterizing tool was a soldering iron. Worked fine. I am sure they could find a medical use for a welder. Like using an arc-welder as a defibrillator?sjfcontrol wrote: Well, I sure hope and pray that my doctor NEVER has reason to use a WELDER on me!!!![]()

I always did wonder how they hold those leaf-springy prosthetic legs on, now I guess I know!Keith B wrote:I used to work with a buddy who was a veterinarian. Some of the things on that list are very strange and IMHO idiotic and not related to medical equipment in any form.
They are really stretching the definitions, one of the pages I saw on the FDA (I think) site was something like a device that affects the human or animal body. So in theory a bullet could be construed to affect the human or animal body and therefore be a medical device.

In my profession there are welding devices in which the intended use is as a medical device. They are not used on humans, but on other things for humans.sjfcontrol wrote:Well, I sure hope and pray that my doctor NEVER has reason to use a WELDER on me!!!The Annoyed Man wrote:Don't you just love how, since there is a legitimate medical use for some laser devices, therefore ALL laser devices having to do with weaponology are automatically classed as medical devices? The problem with many of these things is that the categorization is often overly broad and therefore applied to many things that are obviously not medical devices. Some medical devices are lasers, but not all lasers are medical devices unless you want to collect as many taxes from the people as you possibly can.

When the Federal government is running truly huge deficits each year, it is in the Federal government's best interest to raise revenue in any way they can, and using bureaucratic rules is a great way to hide tax increases while supplementing revenue. ...All part of the plan that ends in destruction of this great nation at the hands of self-righteous statists.

Re: Cabella's Charging Medical Excise Tax on Purchases
I purchased some reloading supplies and other stuff at Cabella's in Buda yesterday and I noticed on the receipt that they have charged a 2.3% medical excise tax on the merchandise total. Has anybody else seen this anywhere?
I was there today and my receipt has nothing of the sort on it - perhaps they've fixed the 'glitch'

About the time the programmer is walked to the door, there will also be someone walking in the door to serve the papers on the class action lawsuit by someone in the plaintiff bar. The OP and all other members of the class will be offered a penny on the dollar and the attorneys will rake in millions in legal fees.Heartland Patriot wrote:If it was a programming error, I'd hate to be the progammer(s)...under a deadline or not, I'd imagine some of them will probably be looking for new employment soon. Re: Cabella's Charging Medical Excise Tax on Purchases
For the final update on this, I never did hear back from the Cabella's customer service as promised, but they did credit my card back for the tax amount about 10 days later. They never notified me, it just showed on the credit card statement.
