Citadel M-1911

Post by Dragonfighter »

Here's my issue. I have a beautiful old 1911 but it was modified for competition (my uncle used it for several Army championships) and does not lend itself to carry with an extended site rail and other features, nor would I like to lose it if used in an SD shooting.

Cabela's has a January sale and has a Citadel 1911 at $550. It is made by Armscor USA (Rock Island Armory). Anyone have any experience with this weapon, know if it is a good buy for the price OR have any suggestions for a good 1911 on a budget?

Thanks for the input.

Added in Edit: Nothing wrong with my Glock but I cut my teeth on 1911's in the Army, love their slimness, balance and I can make up for the capacity with extra mags.

Will they accept a standard Colt mag? I have a couple of finely tuned ones, but they are seven round capacity.

Yes they will. :tiphat:

5" models (and Commanders) take standard Colt Govt. mags.

The shorter than Commander models also take the standard Colt Officers mags.

For $550 you're close to the price of an STI Spartan (about $625), which is built on an Armscor frame but the rest is made and fitted in Georgetown, TX, and is, IMHO, a much better gun.

Remington R1 is a good 1911 at a great price. Right around the $600 new depending on the type you order.
Hello. My name is Red and I used to carry a .45. Now I carry a 9mm and it's getting easier to admit every day.
