Holy Cow!! I am Rich!!
I just did some surfing on gun broker. I did some math. I own about 40K in rifles and something close to 25K in ammo...LOL. Are those people really getting what they are asking for those AK's and AR variants? Somebody has lost their mind! I own (let's just say, more than one) of the pre ban Chinese versions. I won't go into the rest of my collection, but holy cow... I never shoot these things anyway. A few have never been fired and are more than thirty years old! I never would have thought the prices would get so high. I am tempted to dump them!

I am getting 1800 for PSA Ar15s I have about 700 in. Wish I had had more than 3 of them.
Re: Holy Cow!! I am Rich!!
I did the same a few days ago and though ...If prices rise even more ... maybe I only "need" one 33 round Glock Mag in each bathroom, closet, kitchen cabinet, kitchen drawer, hall closet, under each car seat, in the attic, instead of two or three at each location ... they are now more than quadruple what they cost me originally.... better than the stock market.
Then I got sad because I sold about 50 magazines 30-40 round capacity at $5.00 each about 9 months back I had bought for $15-$20 each or so in the pre-1980s ban since I'd never use-"need" them, but needed the space ...

Re: Holy Cow!! I am Rich!!
Yep... I noticed it with my magazines as well. I have more AK47 and AR15 magazines than I could use in a lifetime. My only hesitation at this point is the fear that the threat might be real this time. I have more than a dozen of the Chinese Chrome follower magazines and noticed those things are getting stupid high as well. I may cave in. This monetary value of some of this stuff is beginning to exceed my desire to own it.
In 2009 I sold several AK's from my collection, both Pre-ban model originals and the garbage kit AK's they call "Romanian". I made doubles and triples on many of them. Now I wish I had them back. I could make quadruples.

I know these prices have me considering selling my lowers , etc and just keeping one for myself.
Plus all the magazines and ammo I bought before this panic. I could make enough off just a few extra items to order myself a real nice custom 1911

Re: Holy Cow!! I am Rich!!
What gets me are the SKSs. My mom (bless her dearly departed soul) told me back when the really good Russian ones were all over the place "It's a decently shootable rifle for $75. I don't care how poor we are right now, you're nuts if you don't buy at least a few." I asked for the ones with missing bayonets and sometimes got them for $60-$65, iirc.
The last SKS for sale I saw in person was a beat-to-heck mis-matched mess of parts that looked like it had been excavated from some time spent previously at the bottom of a river. It was priced at $279 last week. The guy at the gun shop says they could get a lot more for them but that this particular one was in such bad shape the price was where it was.
Then I got an email from CDNN yesterday with a pair of SKSs for $2500 EACH. Apparently the collector value of their low serial number is amazing; they're both marked with a serial of "1".
I've consciously (mostly) avoided gun shops and shows since the madness started so I looked at the listings on the sales sites. Less than a minute ago from the time I'm editing this, a nice Russian SKS (nice, but I could reach into my rifle rack and pull one at random that looks about the same) just sold for $1,180.00 (!?!) The auction was a no-reserve with a starting price of $450, meaning that the seller was willing to let it go for $450. I'll bet that's one happy seller right about now!
It seems what I thought of as fun plinkers have actually turned out to be good investments.

Not that I feel they are worth the money people are selling them for but the Russian variants do have a better value. They are more rare than the Yugo or Chinese versions.

450 seems to be about the avg price of Russian sks a few months ago if its in good shape....1800 is insane
I bought some of those beat to heck Chinese and Albanians just because they aren't seen often.

Re: Holy Cow!! I am Rich!!
I dropped the ball on that one. I wanted a Russian for my personal collection and let two or three get away because the bidding got up past 475 or so. I did the same dumb thing on a SKS that came from the factory with a removable magazine. It held AK mags. I saw a guy at a gun show with it at three different shows. He would not budge off his asking price. It was 450 I think. I thought I could wait it out. He sold it and I lost out on a very rare SKS.

Its good to be rich with assets.
Re: Holy Cow!! I am Rich!!
I was at Cabela's after Thanksgiving looking at their long gun rack. My wife commented on the rifle I was holding and I said, "I'd kind of want an AR-10 next." A guy three feet from me turned around and said, "Really? I'm here selling one now. They've got it in the gun library office to appraise it. I want to trade it in and getan AK."
Me: What kind?
ARguy: DPMS with quad rail and a nice scope.
Me: How much do you need for it?
ARguy: $700 without the scope.
Me:
ARguy: Want to look at it?
. . . I followed him into the office. It was in great shape. I just didn't have that much cash to burn right before Christmas.
If only. . .
I could've turned that for 3-4x the money in three weeks time.

Re: Holy Cow!! I am Rich!!
I really am getting tempted to unload these spare rifles. I just looked again and it is still going on! Anyone want to buy my PM9? I'm only asking 2 thousand for it... And I will include two boxes of ammo. If you just want the ammo, I will knock 50 bucks off my asking price.

Re: Holy Cow!! I am Rich!!
Just a little followup on those high-priced SKSs. I was astounded by the high price of one sale on gunbroker so I put a watch on all SKS sales ending between then and midnite yesterday.
4 were sold. The arithmetic mean average price was $735.

If I had one in a folder, pistol gripped. with two detachable 52 round mags, scope mount installed, and both types of bayonets, it's be tempting to list it .... too bad mine fell out of my boat ... They were $89 each back in the day I saw barrels of them at gun shows
