While I appreciate the discount, I am sometimes bothered by the fact that my native Texan trauma nurse neighbor has to pay more than a Yankee who did a hitch in the motor pool after high school to see the world and learn a trade. I'm also not sure why my neighbor should pay more than somebody who takes redneck probation.

That said, I hope campus carry finally passes.

Redneck probation? Do you mean someone from a rural area who is forced by a judge to "join the Army" to get out of trouble? I hate to tell you this, but today's military is an all-volunteer service with fairly high standards that each branch has for letting someone enlist, and it just ain't that easy to get any branch of the military...I'm not saying there aren't waivers for stuff, but its not as easy as people make it out to be.

I despise the denigration of people who do so-called menial jobs (like the motor pool). Every job is meaningful, no matter how menial it might seem. Every job is necessary for the military to function. We should not be critical of people who served simply because they were doing "menial" jobs instead of serving on the front lines.

About 7% of the US population is veterans. Those are people who served their country when others chose not to, some for 20 years or more. And you're going to begrudge those people because they get a discount on the CHL and use that as an excuse to get yours somewhere else? Wow! Just wow!

According to DOD document dated Nov 28, 2011, "just one-half of 1 percent of Americans served in uniform at any time during this past decade". I don't care if you were a cook, clerk-typist, or 11B, thanks for you service.

I don't know about economy of scale, but $145 for a CHL I believe is too much. I am a Vet so I will take advantage of the pricing; but we would probably have a bunch more CHL carriers if it was cheaper to do so. Shoot I guess I am kind of a Socialist myself, I believe Government should subsidize firearms for the people. I had a very Liberal Boss whose head would explode when I told him the same. I also used to tell him I was giving to a group within the Combined Federal Campaign that provided firearms training to inner city youth...

Texas CHL fees are too high. Why can AZ get it done for $60 and VA for $50 but TX is nearly triple?
And that doesn't include the ~$100 cost of the class.
