This will be interesting. I submitted my paperwork online tonight. But I have to redo my fingerprints on Thursday - apparently my first set weren't acceptable. My wife will mail in her application tomorrow with everything complete. I did have an arrest for a misdemeanor in 1986 and supplied the information to show I was never charged or convicted. Also there's a sex offender that lives up north that has the same name as me, so either of those could slow me down. It will be interesting to see who gets their plastic first. Online or by mail. The clock starts tomorrow.

It looks like I'm in the lead. My status has been updated to Manufacture Pending. My wife's background check is still under review. So it would appear we will both have plastic soon...but me first.

Plastic In Hand

I received my CHL in the mail yesterday. I filed everything online. My wife filed on the same day by mail. Her status still shows "reviewing background check". In this case filing everything online was faster.

The process took about 60 days which is what I was expecting.

My wife's CHL arrived in the mail yesterday, 4/13. After submitting our information within a day of each other (me online and her by mail), here were the results.

Submitted January 20
Plastic received by me (online application): March 23
Plastic received by her (mail in application): April 13.

Note: During the process, my fingerprints were under review much longer than hers, but her background check was under review longer. However when we've bought guns before, her background check would go straight through where as I was always delayed. I did provide a very thorough explanation of my past including a background check and my Global Traveler number, which may have helped.

So, at least in this case, even with a glitch in my background, submitting online resulted in receiving plastic 3 weeks quicker.

We are now a legally carrying, well armed household!

Good to know, I did the mail in app also(see signature for timeline) and have yet to be entered into the system.
